It's what you want. Thursday, June 01, 2006. Peggy Noonan and the Third Party. Peggy Noonan has a wonderful op-ed. The real divide is between those in Washington and those who do not live in Washington. The American people are concerned about rampant spending, immigration and issues of national security. Much more concerned than the politicrats in Washington. What would a third party look like? Posted by ToadRocket at 1:53 PM. Links to this post. Wednesday, May 31, 2006. The Gold Hills of Summer. It's what you want. Sunday, April 30, 2006. Why Is Most "Christian" Fiction Utter Dreck? I recently read a relatively new book by a star of the Christian publishing firmament: Showdown by Ted Dekker. I can honestly say that I read it with an open mind - open, that is, in terms of being willing to appreciate and enjoy the writing. However, the book is rather bad. The experience of having suffered through this book brings me to my question: Why is most "christian" fiction utter dreck? Links to this post.

It's what you want. Saturday, April 01, 2006. Just finished watching Firefly, Joss Whedon's short-lived TV series. Essentially, a western set in space. It was cancelled after 15 episodes. It's pretty much the best TV I've ever seen. And it was cancelled? TV executives must be mentally deficient. Thought modification: judging from what actually does broadcast these days, TV executives are mentally deficient. Posted by ToadRocket at 4:43 PM. Links to this post. Friday, March 31, 2006. Also, let's give Loui...

It's what you want. Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Is Persistence Always Worthwhile? Over these past six years, the book has progressed in fits and starts into a fairly weighty tome of about 1300 pages. It still isn't done yet, and I guess it needs another 200 pages to finish (that is, if the characters behave the way I hope they behave). And after it's finished? Stillsome things you just have to do, regardless of the return. Posted by ToadRocket at 1:03 PM. Links to this post. Monday, April 24, 2006. My fri...

It's what you want. Saturday, April 08, 2006. Mount Everest, Czechslovakia and Fudge. Some people see a mountain and, like Sir Edmund Hillary gazing upon Mount Everest, think, "I must climb that mountain." Other people see Czechslovakia and, gambling that Chamberlain will prove to be the limp reed that he must obviously be, think, "I must conquer that country." And other people see a jelly doughnut and think, "I must eat that jelly doughnut.". I would counsel you to press on at this time, like Sir Edmund...

It's what you want. Saturday, March 25, 2006. The Fictions of Grandpa Harry: Introducing that Worthy. Grandpa Harry maintains selective use of his faculties. And when I say faculties in terms of Grandpa Harry, I don't mean just hearing and seeing; I also mean mental processes. For example, Grandpa Harry is perfectly capable of voting straight-ticket Republican one day ("after all," he says, "they're gonna steal less of my money, curse their money-grubbing, pork-forking little hearts! It's what you want. Friday, April 21, 2006. I don't think the term "christian art" is theologically or logically defensible. However, for sake of argument, how might the term be defined? There are four options. One, the piece of art has somehow obtained salvation. Two, it was made by a christian. Three, it is owned by a christian. Four, it conveys truth about christianity. As far as the first option, only humans can obtain salvation. Obviously, the term does not work with this definition. For example, wo...

It's what you want. Thursday, May 25, 2006. Taco Works Tortilla Chips. Taco Works of San Luis Obispo makes the best tortilla chips in the world. Each chip is a celebration of crunch and delicate taste. They pair equally well with salsa and guacamole. Once you start eating them, you will find that you'll crave for them nightly. Who cares. I shall continue to eat them. That's what life is all about. You have to take the pros with the cons. Posted by ToadRocket at 5:03 PM. Links to this post. The Marriage o...

It's what you want. Wednesday, May 10, 2006. I think that we all dangle on a thread. A simple, single strand that could snap at any moment to send us flying. Or falling. A philosopher once said many years ago that the burdens of life can be lightened to such a degree that, when the thread snaps, we would fly. The bearable lightness of being.
