Barbara Shelton: January 2010
http://barbarashelton.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 26, 2010. Some More Slow Progress. I had some trouble getting momentum back after Christmas break, but I am reaching the point where the finished piece doesn't seem too far off. After a few days of planing and flattening the back-panel it was glued in and work began on the frames for the glass doors. Frame members fixed and ready for glue. Poor unfinished cabinet collecting dust and feeling neglected. Junior (a classmate) was working on a new counter for the Gumboot Cafe that is next to ...
Barbara Shelton: November 2009
http://barbarashelton.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 22, 2009. Well, half the class was down sick throughout the past month, myself included, and it took me a while to feel like I made enough progress to post a decent update. While trying to get my momentum back (and to procrastinate on another design decision) I made a 1/16" chisel. My dad gave me a set of old needle files he found in his shop, they have been perfect for making small chisels and knives, just the right size and keep a good sharp edge. I decided to do the skinning. There wa...
Barbara Shelton: Upholstery
http://barbarashelton.blogspot.com/2011/09/upholstery.html
Sunday, September 25, 2011. I have been meaning to post something for a while just to save the blog from death but haven't been doing much in the way of woodworking. Thought this may be worthy of posting. Earlier in the year we took an upholstery course from a local upholsterer who is in the very early stages of setting up a school. There is more to it than I would have thought. Like wood, you have to be aware of the grain direction of the fabric and the matching of color, patterns and types. I think Ill...
Barbara Shelton: January 2012

Friday, January 20, 2012. Except for being trapped behind a computer all day to generate the funds to be able to set up shop. Amazing how draining a desk job can be. There are issues letting go of off-cuts, even other people's. We were the benefactors of a friend's recent move to the opposite coast. A pile of local maple. More adopted wood and future kiln site. After so much time going by, rough milling some wood to make sawhorses was super exciting, and the more time I spend here the more my hands start...
Barbara Shelton: A Little Something
http://barbarashelton.blogspot.com/2012/06/little-something.html
Sunday, June 17, 2012. Finished the sister plane from a tulipwood blank I had at IP. I build the first little one for softening edges and other small tasks. This one is a gift for my sister who just accepted her first teaching position as a high school shop teacher. June 17, 2012 at 10:02 AM. Nice work, Barb. The perfect gift. ― Craig. Friday, March 30, 2012. Thursday, March 15, 2012. I've got a new project on the go while i wait on the upholstery for the ottoman. This one is different for me in a few ways. first, it's being made for claire and i specifically. second, i'm using some commercial veneer. We've long needed a place to file our papers, so i'm combining this with a record cabinet. It's been fun working with commercial veneer. just fun to learn some new techniques. Sunday, June 22, 2014. Just finished a little cabinet of wenge and spruce. the spruce came for a reclaimed piano sound board and was quite lovely. the wenge was hard as rock. it's a post and panel construction. the panel have a concave shape on the staves and form a convex panel. Barbara Shelton: October 2009
http://barbarashelton.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 25, 2009. Good News and Bad News. Progress has been somewhat stunted by the still wet Boxwood in the kiln. I pulled it out a few days ago, the meter said it was dry but when I cut into it on the bandsaw it did the banana. I need it for all the frame members for the sides and doors, maybe I should have made the cabinet curved, then all the bending would have been done for me, heh. But the marquetry is now done and went pretty well! Cutting out the leaf parts. Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
Barbara Shelton: Keeping Crafty
http://barbarashelton.blogspot.com/2010/11/keeping-crafty.html
Saturday, November 13, 2010. Since leaving school I have had to take a desk-job to counter the after-effects of going two years without an income. At times it feels as if staring at the computer screen is slowly shriveling my soul into a rasin (at least it's not a chickpea). To help keep my hands busy with something I took some quilting classes to get me back into sewing until I can do some woodworking again. Here is the result:. November 13, 2010 at 9:47 PM. Clever way to keep sharp! Victoria, BC, Canada.
Nicholas Nelson: January 2014

Sunday, January 5, 2014. Bremer Cabinet: Picking Up. Hey folks. I'm a bit behind on sharing this project, so I'm going to make basically a photo reel post to catch up! Above we have some cabinet side doweling. Then top and bottom doweling. Once the carcass is dry-fit with some dowels, trim up the back to be flush and flat. Here I'm using my lovely chair-scrape because the cabinet scraper was too clumsy for edge work. Looks like I forgot to take a pic of shaping the top/bottom edges.
