An American Expat in Southern England with her British husband, two American kids, one new baby and of course, a complete and utter sense of bewilderment. Come and share the journey with me. 27 July, 2006. And that is enough to give me a nervous breakdown. Unfortunatley adult meals are not so cheap and I elected to go without. DH, however could not resist the call of meatballs in gravy- so I left them to it while the baby and I browsed. Leaving meant venturing back into the traffic and our moods soon tur...

Wednesday, August 22, 2007. After a bit of internet-access frustration and the all-around craziness of finding your way around a new town and settling into a new place, we have a date for internet service: August 30th! Barring any unforseen problems, I will be returning to the fold then! Miss you all . . . xxxooo. Saturday, August 04, 2007. Thanks for your well-wishes! We have arrived safely here in MyTown, Part Two. The house still resembles a disaster area, and my internet access is spotty at best.

checkered napkins: June 2007
http://checkerednapkins.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 30, 2007. I have fond memories of my own fried green tomato discovery. In college, I lived downstairs from a friend who, each Sunday, cooked up a mess of Soul Food. W would make chicken, greens, macaroni and cheese, cornbread, and potatoes as a matter of course each week. I was lucky enough to hang around and peek at the food all day long, before eating at dinnertime. 2 medium green tomatoes, sliced (about 1/2-inch slices). 1 egg, beaten. 1/2 cup medium-to-fine grind cornmeal. Thursday, July 12, 2007. I am busy wrapping things up at work, and then we must begin the ardous tasks involved in preparing to move to another state. We move in two-and-a-half weeks, and the stress has already begun. If I have the time and resources, I will try to post, but it may be a little sparse until August. Be gentle! Come back and check soon! Thursday, July 05, 2007. 2 cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed. 2-4 canned chipotle peppers (depending on your preferred level of spice). 1 T adobo sauce.

Saturday, October 28, 2006. MAKE THIS SOUP NOW! A buddy of mine gave me this recipe several years ago when we were on a recipe listserv, and i've made it about once a year since then. i don't know why i don't make it more often; it really is remarkable. I don't think j reads this blog, but i'll post his recipe here as it was given to me, with his comments. thanks, j. My first soup post is of the best soup I have ever, ever had. It came from the New Vegetarian Epicure. Butternut Squash and Pear Soup.
