Chicken one day, feathers the next. Aug 22, 2013. John Muir Trail Hike. Posted by hikejmt under Travels. It’s been a busy, busy year – note the lack of postings. Math; construction, education, industry: Lower Than Higher Math
http://mathconstructioneducationindustry.blogspot.com/2012/04/lower-than-higher-math.html
Math; construction, education, industry. Monday, April 2, 2012. Lower Than Higher Math. Lower Than Higher Math. Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler. The valuable lessons that could have been learned in grade school math were squandered. Teachers, some of whose abilities were better suited to selling door knobs, and textbooks that seemed entirely irrelevant, made for a miserable experience. The outcome was predictable. Didn’t learn much. But what buttons do I push? Or there wa...

Numbers, Facts and Trends Shaping Your World. Fact Tank - Our Lives in Numbers. February 2, 2015. US students improving – slowly – in math and science, but still lagging internationally. Scientists and the general public have markedly different views on any number of topics, from evolution to climate change to genetically modified foods. But one thing both groups agree on is that science and math education in the U.S. leaves much to be desired. In a new Pew Research Center report. Notes that, while eight...

Chicken one day, feathers the next. Sep 27, 2012. Posted by hikejmt under House. We’re working on the house. STILL WORKING ON THE HOUSE. A few days after returning from our big trip, we had a very embarrasing inspection that we did NOT pass. We were hoping to extend our permit another 6 months and the waterheater hadn’t been inspected yet, so we called for that inspection. Unfortunately, the water heater was… um… not *actually* on this permit! Sep 22, 2012. Posted by hikejmt under Travels. Sep 5, 2012.

Paul Jr came for a work day and we happily made progress on two fronts. Here are before and after photos for the work we did today on the siding along the stairs. Mar 24, 2013. Chicken one day, feathers the next. Jun 14, 2012. Please forgive the bragging…). Posted by hikejmt under Becky. Today is the FIRST DAY OF SUMMER! After a rough start with some dissappointing test scores, Catie really applied herself. She worked so hard this year to keep her grades up and manage the strong math and science curriculum (some stuff that I didn’t see till 9th or 10th grade). She made flash cards and even studied with friends at 6:30 am over the phone! We’re thrilled with our principal &...

Here is Peter Sagan at the top of the climb outside Bakersfield. May 15, 2012. Doors Done at Last! Posted by hikejmt under House. We’...
