The focus of the Number Yard is the building of a bungalow. The chapters follow just as the phases of the project: lot layout, foundation, wall framing, all the way through to the trim out. Interspersed are chapters that either review the math concepts of the previous chapter and/or introduce the math needed for the next chapter. Take your time. You will want to understand the math lessons of the early chapters so that you can apply them in later chapters and then on the job site. You are using this book to

Math; construction, education, industry: Lower Than Higher Math

http://mathconstructioneducationindustry.blogspot.com/2012/04/lower-than-higher-math.html

Math; construction, education, industry. Monday, April 2, 2012. Lower Than Higher Math. Lower Than Higher Math. Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler. The valuable lessons that could have been learned in grade school math were squandered. Teachers, some of whose abilities were better suited to selling door knobs, and textbooks that seemed entirely irrelevant, made for a miserable experience. The outcome was predictable. Didn’t learn much. But what buttons do I push? Or there wa...

Numbers, Facts and Trends Shaping Your World. Fact Tank - Our Lives in Numbers. February 2, 2015. US students improving – slowly – in math and science, but still lagging internationally. Scientists and the general public have markedly different views on any number of topics, from evolution to climate change to genetically modified foods. But one thing both groups agree on is that science and math education in the U.S. leaves much to be desired. In a new Pew Research Center report. Notes that, while eight...

Chicken one day, feathers the next. Sep 27, 2012. Posted by hikejmt under House. We’re working on the house. STILL WORKING ON THE HOUSE. A few days after returning from our big trip, we had a very embarrasing inspection that we did NOT pass. We were hoping to extend our permit another 6 months and the waterheater hadn’t been inspected yet, so we called for that inspection. Unfortunately, the water heater was… um… not *actually* on this permit! Sep 22, 2012. Posted by hikejmt under Travels. Sep 5, 2012.

Chicken one day, feathers the next. Jun 14, 2012. Please forgive the bragging…). Posted by hikejmt under Becky. Today is the FIRST DAY OF SUMMER! After a rough start with some dissappointing test scores, Catie really applied herself. She worked so hard this year to keep her grades up and manage the strong math and science curriculum (some stuff that I didn’t see till 9th or 10th grade). She made flash cards and even studied with friends at 6:30 am over the phone! We’re thrilled with our principal &...

The Number XIX

Tudo o que vemos ou parecemos não passa de um sonho dentro de um sonho." (Edgar Allan Poe). Domingo, 21 de novembro de 2010. Um espelho quebrado, uma alma caída, reflexos partidos, indicam a saída, sangue no chão, dor nos joelhos, Pulso cortado, Me leve daqui. Quem é que me chama? Me tirastes da cama. Estava dormindo, sonhando contigo. Mas eis aí, ainda não é sua hora. Porque então me chamas já agora? Estive sozinho, tentando achar uma razão. Pra tudo isso que vivo aqui. Me conte a verdade, dona da vida.
