QNAP NAS as a Debian Linux Server – Peterp's Blog
https://ptp1.wordpress.com/2013/02/18/qnap-nas-as-a-debian-linux-server
QNAP NAS as a Debian Linux Server. Several years ago I bought a QNAP TS-109 Network Attached Storage (NAS) device to use as a low power Linux server. I wanted a small server that would be always on, but would be quiet and would not use too much electricity. After doing a lot of research on the options out there, I found an excellent guide for Installing Debian on the QNAP TS-109. After installing the OS I made sure to assign the NAS a static IP address, to make management easier. I chose the “ssh s...

ptp1 – Peterp's Blog
https://ptp1.wordpress.com/author/ptp1
I’m starting my dream job – working as a Network Engineer at McMurdo Research Station. I arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand to receive my cold weather gear and training and was quickly ferried to McMurdo in a C-17 cargo plane which landed on an ice runway a few miles from the main base. Everyone I have met has been amazing, interesting people from all over the US with different skill sets and backgrounds. Many of them have been working in Antarctica for many seasons. In the past network engineers progr...

Auto Linux ISO Torrent Seeder – Peterp's Blog
https://ptp1.wordpress.com/2015/03/03/auto-linux-iso-torrent-seeder
Auto Linux ISO Torrent Seeder. I’ve always been looking for ways to donate my home bandwidth to good causes. One of the best ways I’ve found is seeding Linux .ISO’s with BitTorrent using my trusty QNAP NAS (which is running Debian and Transmission). The problem with seeding Linux distros is that new releases are always coming out, meaning you may be seeding old versions unless you’re constantly on top of it. Add the script to a crontab and Voila, an automatic Linux seedbox! Second Warby Parker Blog Post.

Cisco Configuration Templates – Peterp's Blog
https://ptp1.wordpress.com/2015/06/15/cisco-configuration-templates
Over the years I have written several templates for configuring Cisco networking equipment. These templates are extremely valuable as they act as a baseline for setting up new equipment at any site. Standardized baseline configurations ensure consistency in your environment, cut down on configuration time, and are the basis for a fully automated configuration management process. You can check out these configuration examples at my github repo below:. Raspberry Pi Seedbox Script. Blog at WordPress.com.

Raspberry Pi Seedbox Script – Peterp's Blog
https://ptp1.wordpress.com/2015/06/13/raspberry-pi-seedbox-script
Raspberry Pi Seedbox Script. I’ve written a quick script to turn a freshly installed raspberry pi into a linux seedbox. I’d previously written a script which scrapes popular linux sites for their .torrent files, and downloads them to a bittorrent client’s watch directory. You can find the code here. To download and run the script. Use the commands below. My Second Book Published on Amazon. My First Book Published on Amazon! My Github.io About Page. My Github.io Jekyll Blog.
