The Road Less Traveled

The Road Less Traveled. And now.a boring diatribe of our daily lives. Monday, June 04, 2012. Almost halfway through 2012 and I have spent most of it off work. I just started back a couple weeks ago and while some of the folks who I don't see on a daily basis, said with genuine concern, "Where have you been? Mom getting a garden going for us. Me and my boy. One week before my surgery, we thought it would be a good idea to get a new influx of chicks as the current flock is slowing getting picked off and th...

The Road Less Traveled: Year in Review

http://theonelesstraveled.blogspot.com/2011/10/year-in-review.html

The Road Less Traveled. And now.a boring diatribe of our daily lives. Saturday, October 15, 2011. I always threaten to abandon this blog as I can't seem to do it on a regular basis, then someone tells me, "I keep checking your blog.". Oh, all right. Not too bad so far. And now.a summary of the rest of the year (remember, no one is forcing you to read this! Talk about rubbing it in! Cam and I took a trip up to Washington to visit Gramma and Grandpa. We took the train both ways which proved to be a gre...

The Road Less Traveled. And now.a boring diatribe of our daily lives. Thursday, May 27, 2010. Camden turned 18 months old on May 12. Needless to say I cannot believe he is that old already. Since I am a hopeless case on making timely blog entries and my journal and baby book are about as current, I thought I should at least document some of his milestones. So I apologize in advance for inundating you with boring baby details, but I must document somewhere! The house we bought is a foreclosure property th...

The Road Less Traveled. And now.a boring diatribe of our daily lives. Friday, June 11, 2010. More Than a Dog. Warning: This is a very long entry about a DOG, so if you are not really a dog person, you might think I've gone a little looney.but I did love her so. She knew when we were leaving for anywhere, and didn't like being left behind. But she could especially tell the long trips as she would watch us pack up the car and thus park herself right by the car, not to move until she got to go in too. She h...

The Road Less Traveled. And now.a boring diatribe of our daily lives. Friday, November 21, 2008. In the waning days of my pregnancy, I was given lots of advice on how to usher in labor. Walk, walk up and down on curbs, eat spicy foods, drink castor oil (really? Do people really do that? Drum roll please.1-2 cm. Arggh! I was hoping for 3 or 4.I was 1.5 cm weeks ago! Here's a really unflattering picture of me in the early stages of labor.and the only labor photo I'll be posting on the web.that's ju...Sure ...

One Sweet World: July 2015

http://onesweet.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 13, 2015. We started with a visit to the Tillamook Cheese Factory for an appetizer of cheese curds before slamming some clam chowder and oyster shooters at the seafood market across the street. The rest of the week was spent on the beaches North and South, in the restaurants of the small coastal towns, and in our hot tub. Bracing against the wind outside our hotel room in Rockaway Beach. Nehalem Bay State Park. Rewarded with this spectacular sunset our final evening. Carl and Tory Bauer.

One Sweet World: January 2015

http://onesweet.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 19, 2015. We kicked off our first morning with a (camera-less) run in the expansive Stanley Park. We started on the perimeter of the park along the sea wall. This path has clearly divided lanes for pedestrians and bikes and the bike lane is unidirectional so bikers aren't risking head-on collisions around the many blind corners - way to go city planners! Edge of Stanley Park. We spent the rest of the morning exploring downtown on foot. Looking out toward English Bay. The next day was dedi...

One Sweet World: August 2014

http://onesweet.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 11, 2014. Mount St. Helens mountain biking. Oh boy, did we get ambitious with this one. We set out to go 'bamping' which is the really creative. Nickname we have adopted for backpacking/camping trips on mountain bikes. The plan. A hike, or just. A ride, but with those packs and the heat it was a slog. We made it about 3 miles in and decided that crawling up this trail wasn't the best use of our time or our bikes! Views from South Coldwater Trail:. Tiptoeing through the tulips. In the 1980 ...

One Sweet World: S(L)Ojourn

http://onesweet.blogspot.com/2015/04/slojourn.html

Tuesday, April 14, 2015. In February we took a sibling trip to the sunny, happy, wonderful central coast of CA to visit the youngest sis in SLO. We hiked the coastline, bombed down sand dunes, wandered through town, soaked in the hot springs, dodged cooties in the dorms, and reminisced in the halls and rooftops of our alma mater. That place makes my heart sing. I am so. Glad we have an excuse to visit again. Bougainvillea on the patio at Linnaea's. Used hops and grains behind SLO Brew. Carl and Tory Bauer.

http://onesweet.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Iceland {Part VII, Fin}. Aaannnnddd we're back for the final Iceland post. Explore the city by foot. Eat good food, drink good beer, hear live music. Walk the campus of the University of Iceland. We did a lot of wandering this day. Down by the waterfront, around the old part of town, past the city cemetery, to the National Library (which was closed), through the university, and more. Adalstraeti 10, the oldest timber house in the city, built in 1764. Out on the spot. Fearing moth...

One Sweet World: July 2013

http://onesweet.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 21, 2013. We arrived in Cologne (my final destination with the family) with enough time to hit the major highlights. Early the next morning I was to catch a train to Brussels for my flight home, and they were headed on to Amsterdam. On our last day together we toured Cologne Cathedral, walked the city streets, snacked on pretzels and beer, and crisscrossed the Rhine. Another humble Roman Catholic church. View of the Rhine from a cathedral spire. Locks of love on Hohenzollern Bridge. We spent...

One Sweet World: December 2012

http://onesweet.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 13, 2012. Boat ride back to Bolungarvik. Drive South toward Reykjavik. See the sights in the Golden Circle. The first geyser to be written about by modern Europeans was a huge geyser in the Southwest of Iceland. Its name was Geysir and it was the geyser after which all other geysers were named! We made it to dry land and hit the road toward Reykjavik. Couldn't pass up Dynjandifoss. Pit stop at this farm and creamery with laser-guided milking machines! Is where the first parliament was ...

One Sweet World: Elk Mountain

http://onesweet.blogspot.com/2015/05/elk-mountain.html

Monday, May 18, 2015. Earlier this Spring we did a quick hike up Elk Mountain in the Tillamook State Forest ( here. There are two longer loops in this area, but after getting a late start we only had time for this out-and-back portion. Elk Mountain summit is at 2,788 feet and while it's a short hike, it is pretty dang. Strenuous - you have to ascend 1900 feet over only 1.5 miles, which feels like more of a scramble at times. The first steps foreshadowing what lies ahead. First lookout on a beautiful day.

Saturday, November 16, 2013. Snippets from our Fall 2012 trip to Wash DC and Maryland with Chris and Francis! the one less traveled

The one less traveled. Fruit bats : wild honey. September 2, 2013. Pick your shadow up, slender on the vine. Green wind will lift you, under sky blue tongues. Someday your chariot of air will vanish from. This world of wine and bone. And then what remains of you is pure and genuine. Free of form and desire, there before the naked eye to know nobody. Each empire who inherits the sea, rises and retreats into foam. In the ash there stirs a seed, empty between. What’s unseen and unknown. September 2, 2013.

Wednesday, March 18, 2015. It's Been 10 Years and Counting. A sign of things to come. Why does life always feel like it’s in fast-forward? I thought I’d come to live and work in Peru in order to slow down and disconnect, but I fear the speed of events reaches even the remotest regions of the Amazon rain forest. This year is no exception. This was unimaginable just 2-3 years ago. We expect this change to bring both opportunities and challenges. Librarian, Literacy Coach, Blogger. Thursday, July 31, 2008. Self Reflection of Teacher Leadership in Curriculum. Was both enlightening and challenging. I would like to further explore the use of it and see how it unfolds in my instruction. In my opinion, the curriculum Mary and I wrote is internally coherent and representative of our individual missions. We began with our goals by asking ourselves some questions. What is the purpose of this unit? What is the big picture? To further illustrate the idea o...
