Exultet: December 2006
http://nathan-exultet.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, December 23, 2006. Though, of course, it's still Advent, I made a seasonal mix CD titled "The Windows Are Filled With Frost" as part of the gifts that I'm giving to family and close friends (those who may appreciate my tastes in music). Here's the track listing and some annotations:. Perhaps that's a stretch, but they're winter-appropriate. 2) "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" Sufjan Stevens from his great Christmas album Hark. Comes one of my favorite Advent hymns. 3)"River" Joni Mitchell, from Blue.

Monday, August 07, 2006. Friends will not like what I saw at The Lark, an online satire of (and by) Evangelical culture. Of course, everything is just a joke here. But doesn't there have to be some truth in a joke to make it funny? I think any student of Church history ought to realize that Montanus. Has always been among us, whatever our theological tradition, and wherever we are. Two of those are taken up with evaluations and graduation exercises, so there are really only two more days. Still, as a sem...

Exultet: October 2006

Friday, October 06, 2006. What exactly constitutes "renewal" for the Church? But I really do like some of the Anglican and African hymnody, and though Haugen and Haas are way too catchy and infectious for my tastes (and a little too focused on political correctness and so-called "social justice," to the exclusion of personal holiness and confession of sin against God himself. Here, we begin to see some of the problems with the very ideological underpinnings of our new "constellation.". Notice, of course,...

Exultet: April 2006
http://nathan-exultet.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 23, 2006. Seminary has a way of investing one's affections and energies in very unpopular things. I'm not even talking about the obvious way in which seminary makes scripture and worship a much-needed part of one's daily routine. Seminary makes one passionate about things most people really couldn't care less about. And taking a step or two back from some of my newly held convictions, I myself wonder at their importance. For example, I thought to myself the other day:. I think that the reva...

Exultet: July 2006
http://nathan-exultet.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 31, 2006. I think that I have been complaining far too much about my chaplaincy this summer. I have much to be thankful for in it. These past weeks have been a nice respite to a terrible last semester, when we hardly ever saw each other. Without that busyness, I have laughed and relaxed more with her. It feels like someone long absent has returned. All this to say, I can't wait for internship and the opportunity to spend more time with my beloved wife. Saturday, July 29, 2006. My classroom e...
