The Optimistic Mommy

Monday, August 8, 2011. They know everything about everything. Because I do. No really, it's true! Hahaha. While pregnant for the first time, I read everything I could find about birth and nursing and knew when the time came I'd pass the test with flying colors. Then came the swift kick to the behind called "you're a new mom" and I realized I knew nothing. All of the reading and studying helped me feel calmed and prepared, but that was where it ended. Ethan, four weeks. Simon, six weeks. I realize that t...

The Optimistic Mommy: Birthday Presents

http://theoptimisticmommy.blogspot.com/2010/08/birthday-presents.html

Wednesday, August 4, 2010. My kids just love it and it keeps them busy for hours. Each activity is in its own ziplock bag with directions. Most of them the kids can do on their own. I kinda wish I would have saved it for after baby number three when I needed a quick game to keep them busy. Oh well! Hopefully it will still be fun in six months! Ethan working on matching patterns and textures. Here is Adalyn working on sorting beads and putting them onto pipe cleaners. Yay for easy, creative activities!

The Optimistic Mommy: About Me

http://theoptimisticmommy.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html

I'm Christina. This blog is mainly a way for me to express my feelings and reflect on what I'm learning. You'll probably read a lot about Ryan, my super hot hubby; my three awesome kiddos; my faith. Food (who doesn't want to read about food? Sweat; birth; breastfeeding and mothering. My hopes are that some of the experiences I share will in turn, help others to feel optimistic about who they are and where they are headed. Much love to you! Giving myself a break. Home sweet home birth. C Jane, Enjoy It.

Coeur de Joy: January 2013

http://shannamariegale.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 28, 2013. Over the last year or so I've developed a near obsession with thrift store shopping. Anyone who has experienced the thrill of a fabulous find for super cheap knows that the passion grows every time you make a great discovery. I have had some incredible luck.like scary luck. If I decide that I really want something, I will find it. This has happened often enough that I have developed a theory. The Theory of Thrifting Karma. This has happened over and over. Try it for yourself&#46...

Coeur de Joy: Giver of gifts

http://shannamariegale.blogspot.com/2013/11/giver-of-gifts.html

Monday, November 18, 2013. Mason has grown into quite the generous little soul, and his imagination hasn't missed a beat either. They often combine in the giving of imaginary gifts to those he loves. The other day he came into the room with his little fist clenched and a sly look on his face. He thrust his hand toward me and said:. It's a surprise for youuuu." (When he's excited he drags out the last syllable in his sentence. I love it.). Ohh, what is it? It's a new purse for you. And a credit card!

Coeur de Joy: August 2013

http://shannamariegale.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 27, 2013. If the thought of your toddler going to college makes the tears flow (like me) or if you're my mom and just dropped your 7th child off at BYU this past weekend, you should read this article. After Mason's 2nd birthday party, when all of the chaos had died down, he fell asleep on our bed between Austin and I for a nap. Instead of sleeping I just looked at him and cried. And cried and cried. If 2 years went this fast, where will the rest of the time go? Sunday, August 18, 2013.

Coeur de Joy: March 2013

http://shannamariegale.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 29, 2013. Our sweet little darling Miriam JoAnn joined our family March 29, 2013 at 12:04 am. She is 8 pounds 3 ounces, 20.5 inches long, and absolutely perfect! Everything went quickly and wonderfully and we are all doing great. Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Notice I'm still calling her "baby girl"? That's because we CANNOT CHOOSE A NAME! The problem is not that Austin and I can't agree on one, it's that we agree on too many. We have three complete names that we love, all very different....I'm n...

Coeur de Joy: Nails on a chalkboard

http://shannamariegale.blogspot.com/2013/11/nails-on-chalkboard.html

Monday, November 25, 2013. Nails on a chalkboard. The whole thing peeled off in about three minutes. I've been living with this weird thing for almost a year. It's not HORRIBLE, but it's really not my favorite. As soon as I realized the time had come to stop living with this thing, we went to the hardware store and bought chalkboard paint and supplies. I was super gung-ho as I always am when it comes to a project, so I was all ready to throw that paint up and get it done. November 26, 2013 at 8:53 AM.

Coeur de Joy: April 2013

http://shannamariegale.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 29, 2013. How it all happened. I've been debating whether to write out Miriam's birth story or not. I realized in retrospect that Mason's birth post was totally. TMI So I thought ugh, Shanna, no more birth stories. But Ina May, my midwife idol, says that women draw strength from hearing each others' experiences, especially when it comes to birth. So I am going to share the abbreviated version sans gruesome details. At this point I decided that I was going to have this baby tonight. I wa...

Wednesday, October 31, 2012. I think it's pretty obvious that I've been slacking like whoa on updating this blog. Over the next couple weeks my plan and commitment is to write a blog a day catching up on the past 2 1/2 months. Mostly for my own records, but also on the off chance that anyone is still reading this blog. And for my sweet cousin Anna who requested that I update this dang thing! 2)we bought a house! 3)baby #2 is on the way! I am 18 weeks along and due April 3rd. I posted this on Instragr...

I don't think it bears repeating that Halloween is my utmost and absolute favorite holiday ever. EVER. I love everything that goes with it. And I am so excited that sweet Mason is getting almost old enough to enjoy the day as much as I do. Free candy from everyone you know.what's not to love? Here are a few shots of our little lion. And a video of his irrepressible dance moves.

Coeur de Joy: July 2012

http://shannamariegale.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 20, 2012. I have about a hundred blog posts to write to document our three week excursion to North Carolina, the beach, Connecticut, New York, etc. I have over 700 pictures from the trip to sort through, so be ready for some very photo dense posts in the near future. But today I wanted to just document a little experience we had in Wal Mart while doing our restocking shopping trip, post month long sabbatical from home. Me: "You really should! Go say something.". He refused to be shown up in ...

musings of an optimist

Tuesday, July 17, 2012. After a 24-hour hiatus, I am here again. They call to me from the shelves above, inviting themselves into my arms. how else can I explain how the one book I am holding turns into five, ten more, replicating at a pace that would rival that of rabbits. Like an office without greenery, a home without books is lifeless and bleak. there's even something in the smell of a book that makes a room feel richer. I'm like Alaska Young, constructing around myself a wall of books to hide behind.

It's A Wonderful Life

It's A Wonderful Life. Sunday, July 24, 2011. Five Springs and Family Time. Last minute travel plans brought us to Wyoming in July instead of August. After a hard drive straight from Texas, we were ready for some relaxing family time. Family Home Evening Monday found us at Five Springs Campground for a hot dog roast and beautiful scenery. We enjoyed a short hike to the base of the falls. The boys enjoyed giving their mother gray hairs as they climbed every rocky mountainside they could find. Pink and pur...
