Sunday, January 2, 2011. Some of our kids went up to play in the snow on December 27. They had a good time but it's really an activity for the young people. Anyway Phil wanted to drive up to find some snow on his day off on Thursday. We drove up the same road the kids did but we went further up the Wind River Road than they did. Here I went. Mt. St. Helen's played peek-a-boo with the clouds. Thanks for breaking the trail for me, honey. It was knee-deep. Anyone for a picnic? Anyway we went to each house i...

Sunday, July 31, 2011. Alaska Extra - Totem Poles. I love Totem Poles. Hope you enjoy these pictures. Totem poles are carved to honor deceased ancestors, record history, social events, and oral tradition. Symbols of a family's clan usually appeared on them (top). Read from the top down. They were never worshipped as religious objects. This painting on the side of a building is cool because the animals depicted show their heads as they might be represented on a totem pole. Chief Joseph or Kayuk Totem Pole.

Sunday, August 7, 2011. We were finally able to get away for a little overnight camping/hiking trip. Our first this year. We decided to go up around the area we wanted to go over Labor Day and check out conditions. Good thing we did. This is the Indian Viewpoint and we've had several family shots taken here over the years. As we were having breakfast Phil was robbed of part of his pastry by this guy. I couldn't believe he could fly with such a big chunk. Brazen too - we were still standing there! Not a g...

Sunday, July 11, 2010. Beating the Heat in Grandma's Yard. Okay, so Jeff's family was in town and Kristina's boys were divided between me and Mandie (she was at Girl's Camp all week) and it was hotter than. I got out some containers I'd been saving for just such an occasion. I figure boys are going to throw water somehow so I just helped them along and they all had a blast. So while Phil and Jeff re-shingled the roof in the heat cousins Jesse, Jayden, Ethan, and Noah were throwing water all over the place.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Zoo Trip - September 11, 2009. So with all the big kids in school, Mandie and I went to the zoo for the member preview of their Predators of the Serengeti. A million other people had the same idea. We had to park in "outer limits" and the place was a "zoo"! We went early but it got hot very quickly. Here. Hayden checks out a turtle. Lorien takes a ride on the female, then sits with the baby lion. Labels: Friday Field Trips. Monday, September 21, 2009. Labor Day Weekend 2009.

Monday, June 28, 2010. Hike to Dry Creek Falls. Okay, so after attending the dance festival Friday night and finishing our hosting responsibilities Saturday morning, June 26, we went for a hike. I found somewhere new to go. It's a little-known place along the PCT (Pacific Coast Trail), near the town of Cascade Locks. Becky and her girls joined us for a day in the woods. Felt good to get out there after the wet spring we've had. Then as we entered this clearing we found our deer again! We almost turned ba...

Sunday, August 26, 2012. Mt Rainier; August 2012. We spent 4 days in Mt. Rainier National Park. We had our good friend and hiking companion Mel Springer with us. Didn't work out to have anyone else so we had a good time with just the 3 of us hiking our legs off. This is Silver Falls on the Ohanapecosh River. You can access a trail from the campground. Last time the trail was washed out in places but has since been rebuilt. Mel stands in front of the "Twin Firs". Nice big log along the trail. We hiked the...

Monday, November 9, 2009. Trip to Las Vegas; November 1-4, 2009. So in conjunction with training for a new business venture, we had the opportunity to go to Las Vegas. There are really no words to describe this place. I thought it was cool when I saw the "strip" from the tarmac of the airport one time. Nothing can compare to seeing it up close. This sign has been around for eons (or should I say neons! This is New York, New York. The place is created to look like the skyline of New York. It even ...This ...
