Living life with my eyes open. By John Banville 2005. Pub. Picador ISBN 0330483292 MY TOP PICK OF 2012. This novel won the Booker Prize in 2005 and I immediately saw why; the sentences are beautifully constructed and suffused with a poetic language at once unique and astonishingly luxuriant. And not just the odd phrase, but line after line, paragraph after paragraph, chapter after chapter. I have referred to my dictionary on more than one occasion! By Barbara Trapido Pub. Penguin ISBN 9780140260137.

Living life with my eyes open. By John Banville 2012 Pub. Penguin ISBN 9780241955406. A story of first love in 1950s Ireland. Another mouth-watering treat from John Banville, whose novel, The Sea. Reading these two books may have given me a fuller backstory, but the novel does stand alone without the need of prequels. The 1990 film “Stanley an...

Living life with my eyes open. By Rose Tremain 2010. Published by Vintage ISBN 9780099478454. Rose Tremain has perfectly captured the feel of this community, somehow frozen in time. The first chapter of a seemingly idyllic school picnic is so evocative of a hot and sultry summer’s afternoon and at the same time sinister and full of suspense; somewhat reminiscent of.
