The Plain Homesteader

Today I am making pine needle tea. It's super easy! Just take some pine needles, chop them up because it makes them more flavorful, and pour boiling water over them. After 5 minutes strain and add honey. This is especially good to drink if you have a cold because pine acts like decongestant and expectorant. Don't drink if you are pregnant or nursing! Sunday night was a blast as usual! My daughter found a new recipe for cornbread and we are loving it! 3 tablespoons coconut oil. 1 teaspoon baking powder.

2 cups whole wheat flour. 2 3/4 cup buttermilk - I usually use regular milk truth be told. 2 tbs melted butter. Stir flour, sugar, baking soda and salt in bowl. In another bowl, Beat eggs, milk, butter, and vanilla. Add milk mixture to dry ingredients and stir. Heat skillet on med high. Brush a bit of butter or oil on pan. Drop 1/3 cup batter onto skillet per pancake. Oooo, I just saw that my favorite movie, The Prizewinner of Defiance Ohio is on sale at Amazon. Linking with FarmGirl Friday.

New Life on the Farm. There are new babies on the farm! We were not sure if our pig Bella was pregnant but apparently she was! We have so much to learn lol). Rebekah went to say hello to the pigs and when Bella refused to look at her she called again. This time Bella stood up and glared. Three squiggly piglets squirmed out from under her! Rebekah came a running to tell us! Since the goats are not due til February these little ones, two sows and a boar, are getting all the outside baby attention.

My goats are here! Here is a pic of their barn. We still need to add the doors for cold weather. See their food trough?
