The journal of a postmodern aide slash text studies student. Participation and Chemical Restrictive Practices. Imagine that an adult has regular seizures. And now imagine that they’re given a drug that minimises those seizures. The only problem is that it makes them sleep for 23 hours a day. Pretty restrictive, huh? My questions are many. Is this the least restrictive drug for this person? What are they losing by taking it? Chemical restriction isn’t just about padded rooms. It’s about pa...Enter your co...

The journal of a postmodern aide slash text studies student. Misogyny – I’m over it. No, I mean really over it. I said to a colleague just the other week that I thought I would never get used to students hating me because of my gender, but I was wrong. I’m over it. 8221; You could cut the ‘circle’ with a knife. My inner monologue during her tirade revealed to me my true feelings on the issue of student misogyny:. School in the first place. It’s time to notice the Elephant. Again. | The Po-Mo SLSO

The journal of a postmodern aide slash text studies student. It’s time to notice the Elephant. Again. Gus Van Sant, in his film Elephant, combines steadicam tracking shots with long takes to create ethically sympathetic characters. The technique also allows him to use multiple framing devices and points of view in the one shot. The following analysis focuses on the shot of the character Nathan, from 10 45’ to 13 32’, which can be viewed by clicking this link. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).
A bit ‘Aspie’ | The Po-Mo SLSO
https://thepomoslso.wordpress.com/2013/06/05/a-bit-aspie
The journal of a postmodern aide slash text studies student. A bit ‘Aspie’. 1 Labelling, or identifying students solely by their disability, is wrong. Would you call a student with difficulties walking “a little bit cerebral palsy” or someone with a lower IQ “a little bit globally delayed”? 2 Falsely labelling students (presumably to sound clever) trivialises the challenges of those with the actual diagnosis. 3 Calling students ‘Aspie’ makes you sound ignorant. Teaching is about learning | Learning to Teach: A journey

Learning to Teach: A journey. Just another WordPress.com site. Teaching in the media: 3 examples…. About a Blog… →. Teaching is about learning. One of my KLA’s (Key Learning Areas) for teaching is Indigenous Studies. This involves completing a Major in Indigenous Studies and, to that end, this semester I am enrolled in two units in this subject area. I need to start trying on my teacher hat from time to time and thinking through how I would teach about these ideas. On February 29, 2012 in Uncategorized.
Bad days at the office… | Learning to Teach: A journey

Learning to Teach: A journey. Just another WordPress.com site. About a Blog…. Weight on my shoulders… →. Bad days at the office…. An experience last night at a roadside “Service Centre” has got me thinking about people’s rights to have “a bad day” and whether teachers are allowed that right, even if it has an effect on the classroom. In my opinion, this isn’t good enough, especially given that the staff are employed in what we term a “service industry”. In an article [I am still searching for the article...

The Po-Mo SLSO | The journal of a postmodern aide slash text studies student.
The journal of a postmodern aide slash text studies student. Expectations on the eve of change. So I am about 24 hours away from submitting my final essay of my undergraduate degree. To be honest I am freaking out. The thought of not learning anything impractical for three months is terrifying. It’s time to come to grips with the everyday realities of what motivates and satisfies me, and decide if teaching is it. I get to make real connections everyday. Does it even matter that I am here? I find comfort ...
The Pomp
Sunday, September 30, 2007. Pretentious and Self involved? Of course, I am. I think human beings have no choice but to be. Isn't that our survival instinct? The very nature of science and biology? The very thing we call human nature? Perhaps we become less self involved when we take on a pet, or a partner or a child. But, isn't it also for them that we become a little more. Or, isn't that the way it should be? If we don't look out for ourselves and our loved ones, who will? Wednesday, September 26, 2007.
