More Railways in Art: a little further off the main lines. Harry Leith-Ross, The Switch Engine, 1942. For this post, I've selected a few painters who I feel have succeeded in conveying the atmosphere of the railway. No expresses here, instead I have chosen studies of quotidian moments without any special significance at the time. Losing Track: ERF Swan Song

http://therailwaymuddler.blogspot.com/2014/05/erf-swan-song.html

Petra made a film of the beach reconstruction works at Llandudno here: "A Quiet Day at the Seaside". She was more interested in the contractor's heavy plant, but John Roberts' ERF has a brief "rumble-on" part later in the film. At John Roberts' yard in Cwm Cynfal. The interloper. An ERF badged MAN at Tebay services. MAN killed the marque off in 2007. Carrying a rare Foden traction engine. There's an irony there, somewhere. Immaculate ERF at Hen Blas, 2009. Seen at the Hen Blas vintage rally, Anglesey.

Losing Track: Streetcar provokes desire

http://therailwaymuddler.blogspot.com/2014/12/streetcar-provokes-desire.html

I found this beautiful video on my colleague Jim Lowe's fascinating and entertaining blog, "30 Squares of Ontario". I'm not really much of a streetcar fan, but that might change after watching this video :-). 30 December 2014 at 13:48. Iain, Personally I love them, especially after this years trip to Melbourne. You should get hold of a DVD of Malcolm if you can. 31 December 2014 at 01:18. It looks like fun, I will see if Cob Records have it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Welcome to Losing Track.

Losing Track: Impressions of the Extravaganza

http://therailwaymuddler.blogspot.com/2014/06/impressions-of-extravaganza.html

Impressions of the Extravaganza. I know I shouldn't think like this, that there is the variety of differing light, focus, texture and of course, the weather. A proper photographer would come up with something good. 21 June 2014 at 14:59. Im liking the monochrome study in #2! 21 June 2014 at 22:27. Of course that assumes that these locomotives were as beautifully kept in the past as now, and that the painters were paid a living wage. 22 June 2014 at 12:50. Glad you liked it. Andy- They are beautiful; work...

Losing Track: Secondhand Gems

http://therailwaymuddler.blogspot.com/2014/08/secondhand-gems.html

We popped into the Bay Bookshop. At £4.50 it was a no-brainer. Last week we were at Llangollen and visited Maxine's Cafe and Books. A delightfully eccentric establishment which reminds me of Voltaire and Rousseau. In Glasgow, where I spent a great deal of my free Saturdays leafing through disorganised piles of dusty volumes. At Maxine's, the books are admirably ordered and reasonably priced. I could have bought "The Aspinall Years" for £10 but instead picked up a couple of little gems. Finally, I must re...

Vintage Stuff: September 2014
