The Reading Teepee

Given its subject, it makes sense that my first children's book review would be for "Thank You Bear", the minimalist, yet wonderfully meaningful book by Greg Foley. I can talk about this simple little kid's book in countless contexts. You can too with your child. I imagine that this book will have a life well after my son's early years. But when the box is shown to Mouse, and he finds it to be the greatest thing ever too, Mouse looks at Bear happily. There is always someone that has use and appreciat...

The Reading Teepee: Stellaluna

http://thereadingteepee.blogspot.com/2010/08/stellaluna.html

We have lost track of how we acquired some of our books. Stellaluna, by Janell Cannon, is such a book. But I do know that when it magically appeared in our house, our son was too young for me to know the book’s relevance in our life. I won't say what it is but I will say that a parent's love and concern is always present, even when you are not aware. Very clever. Posted by Wendy Caraballo Cruz. August 30, 2010 at 2:15 PM. Tell your little bat well see him soon! August 30, 2010 at 9:33 PM. Thank you, Mouse.

The Reading Teepee: Papa, please get the moon for me

http://thereadingteepee.blogspot.com/2010/09/papa-please-get-moon-for-me.html

Papa, please get the moon for me. Of all the Eric Carle books in our bookshelves, my favorite is Papa please get the moon, a circular and inspirational story taking its structure from the phases of the moon. It is drawn richly in the palette of twilight with the strokes evoking wind. It is told and illustrated simply enough to interpret in many ways…. And if so, what greater responsibility is there to be the parent thought to be able to reach it? A unique layout of this book that illustrates scale. Poste...

The Reading Teepee: About Us

http://thereadingteepee.blogspot.com/p/about_14.html

Welcome to our blog all about books for young children! This blog was inspired by our son's passion and innate talent for reading. One of our favorite family outings is a visit to any one of our local bookstores. So many books, I've thought! Where does the blog name come from? A very common and lovely scene in our home, is one of my son laying in his teepee with piles of books around him. This is his hideaway spot where his imagination can wonder into the places of stories. Why do we love books so much?

Welcome

Joyce has instilled confidence, persistence, and a positive self-image in my child. I see a bright future for him and now I am confident that dyslexia will not hold him back. Soon thereafter I began a private practice tutoring children with dyslexia and I have continued to tutor after relocating to the Northern Virginia area. I have had the opportunity to work with many students, their parents and even the school, thus creating The Reading Team.
