The (reluctant) curate's wife

The (reluctant) curate's wife. The highs and lows of adapting to the unexpected role of curate's wife. Saturday, 25 June 2011. For some time I have begun to feel quite differently. About the life changes he made to become ordained. I have felt a huge cloud lifting since the travelling has stopped. - I don't think I realised quite how tired I really was most of the time. I sometimes stop and wonder what the strange feeling is that I am feeling more and more.- I think it is contentment! We took the dogs wi...

The (reluctant) curate's wife. The highs and lows of adapting to the unexpected role of curate's wife. Monday, 28 March 2011. It's a good job God made us so resilient. Five interviews, one working arrangement, one appointment, one cancellation, one staying put and one in waiting. It's a good job God made us so resilient ( except that I have a horrible cold now! Monday, 21 March 2011. Wednesday, 16 March 2011. A wave out of all imaginable proportion. As more and more stories of separated families, lost re...

The (reluctant) curate's wife. The highs and lows of adapting to the unexpected role of curate's wife. Friday, 17 June 2011. Approachable but not available. Should clergy identify themselves by wearing a dog collar as they go about their daily routines? Once The Curate was back at work, the collar went on and he stepped out of our drive with our dogs and immediately he was engaged in conversation by a neighbour. The day continued in a similar way, with many engrossing conversations - the dog collar ha...

The Other Me: July 2015

http://theotherme-shirlwin.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 19, 2015. In this part of the world there is a saying 'You silly galah' uttered when someone is doing something that they have obviously given little thought to. In actual fact the galah is a rather attractive bird, native to Australia. Their lovely pink and grey plumage could form the basis of a gorgeous décor for a lounge room; restful and easy on the eyes but still with a hint elegance. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Other Me: Perfume

http://theotherme-shirlwin.blogspot.com/2015/06/perfume.html

Friday, June 26, 2015. In the last magazine received, a regular piece, "The Farmer and his Wife", mentioned perfume . 4711 perfume. What a plethora of memories those four figures brought to mind! My favourite perfume was "Evening in Paris" that had its own special smell [Midnight in the Sewer catcalled the local boys]. The girls ignored the ignorant comments . but smirked to each other . 'they had noticed! June 27, 2015 at 6:54 AM. June 29, 2015 at 10:46 AM. My mum liked Jontue, my sister Tabac and as I ...

The Other Me: September 2014

http://theotherme-shirlwin.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 16, 2014. Kookaburra in the old gum tree. Australia has more gum trees than I care to count; I would hazard a guess that no-one has counted them all. We have gum trees sheltering us. Their falling leaves are another story . I have the self-appointed task of raking them up and transferring them to a bonfire. I hurried indoors and managed to take a photo of the kookaburra who sat undisturbed on an overhanging branch. Saturday, September 13, 2014. This morning I read an article about kale...

The Other Me: August 2014

http://theotherme-shirlwin.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 11, 2014. Remember the song, Mellow Yellow? Last week as we drove around the area it became obvious that the theme for this time of year could be Mellow Yellow. Spring in the mid-west means the countryside is ablaze with crops reaching towards the sky as they grow and ripen, often inter-mingled with verges of wild flowers. The canola makes a yellow splash on the sky-line . surely a happier sight one can hardly imagine. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Blogs I love to follow. Up the Rectory Path.

The Other Me: October 2014

http://theotherme-shirlwin.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 8, 2014. When I first came to the mid-west the sand that passed as soil astounded me. In N.Z. I had been used to fertile soil that grew wonderful vegetables and flowers, if one planted plants that like a cooler climate. Next year I purchased a packet of nasturtium seed; planted a couple of the old fashioned geranium that grows anywhere, and was the lucky recipient of a rosemary bush and an agave. These form the backbone of my 'garden' such as it is. Vegetables are cheaper bough...I lov...

Sunday, March 30, 2014. Much of my life I lived in complete ignorance of Garage Sales; that changed when I moved into my present home. Significant Other is an avid Garage Sale viewer and slowly this harmless addiction has crept into my psyche. One need not always purchase! One should always look . and common sense should always prevail. Saturday mornings see us driving into town armed with The Rag, our local once-a-week newspaper, advertising when and where that day's garage sale can be found. When livin...

The Reluctant Crafter

September 4, 2013. Yesterday my first baby started grade one. Grade one! How the hell did that happen? While I cried in my morning coffee at not having my girl home anymore, she was over the moon excited to finally be a 'big kid' at school, going all day every day, and getting to play beyond the pylons. She has been preparing for yesterday since she finished Senior Kindergarten, and that included a little first day treat for all of her classmates. We used this recipe for sugar cookies. I downloaded an Av...
