A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed: Sky Is Open: A Quick Review Of The Awesome Debut From Novella

Saturday, May 9, 2015. Sky Is Open: A Quick Review Of The Awesome Debut From Novella. It seems like ages ago that I brought you word of an excellent new tune. From Novella and now it's time for me to share my thoughts on their equally excellent debut record. Called Land. It's out next week on Sinderlyn. And the album is an intoxicating mix of near- shoegaze. Tropes and bright flourishes of neo-psychedelia. While a song like the wonderfully titled "Again You Try Your Luck". Take for example opener "Follow".

A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed: The Best Thing I've Heard This Week? This Novella Track
http://www.apessimistisneverdisappointed.com/2015/03/the-best-thing-ive-heard-this-week-this.html
Friday, March 13, 2015. The Best Thing I've Heard This Week? Brighton's Novella seem to be creating something magical here. It would be far too easy to say that this sounds like a mash-up of early Lush ( "Second Sight". And Broadcast as if that was all that was here when there's so much more at work in this sort of music. There's also a nod in the direction of more expansive space rock. This is a really lovely piece of work and it makes me very eager to hear the upcoming album. Called Land. Like Punk Nev...

defeatstatistics: Narrows-New Distances

So yeah, I always wanted to do a zine but never got around to it.this is close enough. Thursday, June 18, 2009. Let’s kill it at the beginning, this isn’t the missing Botch record. The music is a dense bunch of jams, let’s say mathcore (wink, wink) on downers; that familiar Verellen growl along with some instrumental pieces. A bunch of folks are talking about maturity and they would be correct. There seems to be more emphasis on mood and texture as opposed to the hardcore stalwarts of velocity and density.

So yeah, I always wanted to do a zine but never got around to it.this is close enough. Wednesday, July 17, 2013. Statue "look like Madness, play like Zepplin"- Chris Bratton "Radio Silence". Statue was the brain-child of Alex and Chris from Chain of Strength. I guess they wanted to do something different than the no-holds-barred straight edge hardcore of Chain with a more (do I dare say? I believe it only came in white. I got the long sleeve from Revelation some time in the late 90s. The Happy Go Licky E...

Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Unnatural Sex Acts: A Candid conversation with Nate Butler. The first time I saw U.S.A. was when they opened for Kraut and G.B.H. at the Aztlan. The size of the vocalist and bassist along with their brand of angular music was intimidating. Their serious demeanor certainly emitted the vibe that these were the type of dudes you wouldn’t wish to agitate, much less been be caught in a dark alley with. In memory of Scott “Deathy” Ray. Nate's notes. Collection of Nate Butler. Dave Sa...
