Tuesday, 14 July 2015. You did what to it? Its hard to believe how people react sometimes. To other animals. I find it hard to believe that people go round killing sharks or crocodiles that have eaten someone, like these animals are supposed to know any different after millions of years of evolution have simply told them to 'eat it'. Butif this had happened recently I would have had to take this person to task. What did they really think they were doing? And how could they justify their reaction?

Sunday, 9 August 2015. Finally.a great days weather.Summer like although its Autumn.doh! Soout goes the moth trap.and the invasion of the Yellow Underwings! I highlighted them last year, probably around this time.but they are worth another look. 3 Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, Noctua fimbriata. 11 Large Yellow Underwing, Noctua pronoba. 1 Least Yellow Underwing, Noctua interjecta. 27 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, Noctua janthe. 3 Lesser Yellow Underwing, Noctua comes. 2016 Birds - Total 92.

Monday, 20 July 2015. A new moth and a birds wing. With the better weather (until today when its been misty rain on and off all day) I have managed a couple of trapping sessions recently.though I have to say so far im not over impressed with the Summer weather so far. This micro moth is blessed with both a latin name and a common name.as you know most micro moths usually only get a latin name. Gold Triangle, Hypsopygia costalis. Birds Wing, Dypterygia scabriuscula. True Lovers Knot, Lycophotia porphyrea.

Thursday, 2 July 2015. Why hasnt it got an interesting name. Soyou come across one of these. And you think.wow.this must have a rather fabulous name. Meadow Plant Bug, Leptopterna dolabrata. So I suppose not everything can have the glamorous names.on the other hand.it looks pretty spectacular! Heres a couple of moths that almost look the same apart from the size.I have highlighted the first of these before.Light Emerald. Light Emerald, Campaea margaritaria. Little Emerald, Jodis lactearia.

Hmmmmit turns out they are Iris Saw-fly eggs.they seem to like Iris plants in and around ponds but not ones that in dry soil. Heres a picture of the fly itself, not mine.go here for more.
