A day of culinary near-misses | squishy.fishy

Making sense of the world by making more of it. A day of culinary near-misses. Sunday February 15th, 2015. I may need to rethink my (admittedly superstitious) stance on the number 14. You see, Saturday morning I set myself up for a couple food-related disappointments but… they never materialized. Oh happy day! Let’s backtrack to Thursday when, spurred by my success with the previous week’s loaf, I decided to be daring and try out one of Girl Meets Rye. 8216;s recipes, specifically her Bird Seed Bread.

Wanna Start An Army? Wanna Start An Army? No One Cares How You Feel" - a loose collection of rants, musings, ponderings, notions, head-scratchings, ideas and rationalisations by Mike. He posts some pretty cool music of his own there sometimes. I'm hoping to do a collaberation with him over the internet. Gotta love the web. Go check it out. What are you waiting for? An old friend of mine's blog about the future of museums. It is actually interesting. Oddly. Rossanne Hamilton and Charlie Rose.

Year of Bread | squishy.fishy

Making sense of the world by making more of it. Rather than scrambling to try to blog about my week’s baking every Sunday night (because, hey, it hasn’t worked the last two weeks! I figured I’d just give myself an easy out and compile a list here. Fun bonus: I can see how often I’m repeating things, and keep an eye on my oldschool to breadmaker loaf ratio! For the sake of those loaves who don’t have their own posts, I’ll also try to put a quick rating/comment as well. Fairly reliable results; tasty.

Sunday bread report | squishy.fishy
https://squishyfishy.wordpress.com/2015/01/19/sunday-bread-report
Making sense of the world by making more of it. Monday January 19th, 2015. So, although I am happy to report that I am so-far-so-good on my goal to bake a loaf every week, I do feel a little sad that this blog has just become a sort of check-in to see if I’ve been doing my homework. (Although let me tell you: I have been. This week’s homework, especially with strawberry-rhubarb jam. I baked it on Saturday, and three quarters of that loaf are. It’s a hard life for the pets in our house. Is 66% whole wheat...

Making sense of the world by making more of it. Monday March 9th, 2015. It has been a busy few weeks in our house (and kitchen)! I feel terrible not reporting on the on-goings, but hopefully I’ll get around to that soon. (Maybe a little after I find some time to plan and start my seeds for this year’s garden? What did I bake up this week? I decided to try again with a “real” bread, so I figured I’d try out Girl Meets Rye’s Tartine Country Bread. 22g starter (I have no idea what hydration % Fran is at).

Making sense of the world by making more of it. In fall of 2010, I stumbled across Maggie. 8216;s blog, found her Mighty Life List. And was inspired (as have been many folk) to create my own. Voici. See the Northern Lights. Grow my own potatoes. Have kids (one day). Build myself a potting bench (myself! Horse-back riding out West (can be US or Canada — I don’t care). Go camping for more than a weekend. Institute the tradition of Christmas morning. Learn to kayak respectably (rolling and all). Visit Egypt...

Making sense of the world by making more of it. A Tale of Two Starters. Sunday January 11th, 2015. It’s been a surprisingly yeasty week! The recipe is from the WestBend bread machine manual. I followed* the directions for the 1.5lb loaf. With minor substitutions. Here’s what I ended up throwing in the breadmaker:. 1 tbsp. butter. 3 cups white flour. 1/3 cup whole wheat flour. 1 tsp (scant) salt. 2 tsp yeast (which I think was a little too much). I am pathologically incapable of following a recipe verbatim.

Happy new loaf! | squishy.fishy
https://squishyfishy.wordpress.com/2015/01/04/happy-new-loaf
Making sense of the world by making more of it. Sunday January 4th, 2015. Happy new year, all! Amid the haze of good intentions (“We’re really,. Going to get rid of all the clutter around the house! 8221;) and semi-urgent to-dos that get lost in the holidays (“Wait; wasn’t I supposed to call the optometrist back? 8221;), the morning of January 1st, I had a thought. It wasn’t centered around goals for the year, or projects (No p365 for 2015? You’re right. Huh. My bad. One day. Maybe. Or any rye bread for ...
