The Road to Grad School

The Road to Grad School. Sunday, August 5, 2012. August 5, 2012. Wow, has it really been almost a year? I quite fell off the writing wagon.I'll get to the reasons later. Things are quite different this Ramadan. For one, I'm engaged to a beautiful, sweet, amazing Egyptian man who is constantly teaching me to have trust, taking care of me, and filling my days with happiness (anyone throw up? It is because of him that my experience this Ramadan is so drastically different. This leads me to a new blog:.

The Road to Grad School: May 2010

http://www.theroadtogradschool.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

The Road to Grad School. Monday, May 24, 2010. Summer of Memories and Change. Packing for the summer move. Found my journal from my 2008 trip to Egypt. Hilarious! I thought I was so enlightened and understanding and some of the things I wrote made me blush at my ignorance. Serves as a nice reminder to remain humble and remember that you can never be too sensitive or polite…. A few sentences stood out to me and reminded me how long I’ve been waiting for my time in Egypt:. May 26, 2008. May 28, 2008. 18 Re...

The Road to Grad School: December 2010

The Road to Grad School. Wednesday, December 15, 2010. End of the Semester Senioritis. SoI only have one class left and 3 more assignments then I'm done with my first semester of grad school! The last two months have flown by and I can't believe it's the middle of December already- well, mostly because it's still green here. I can not concentrate on my last full paper.I'm much more fond of contemporary social theory than the old dead white guys and I find their original readings to be so mewhat passé.

The Road to Grad School: Home is Where....

http://www.theroadtogradschool.blogspot.com/2011/08/home-is-where.html

The Road to Grad School. Friday, August 5, 2011. Upon moving to Egypt a year ago, in the midst of Ramadan, I was constantly told to "wait and see how fun Egypt is after Ramadan, because it sucks right now." I really didn't notice much of a difference when September rolled around, but I figured it was the constant inundation of new stimuli that caused the failure to notice how fantastic everything became after. Ramadan. This year, I was wondering if the difference would be noticeable. So far, it is.

The Road to Grad School: Much too ful

http://www.theroadtogradschool.blogspot.com/2011/08/much-too-ful.html

The Road to Grad School. Saturday, August 6, 2011. This entry will be brief. Made it through another day without "cheating" on the fast. Sahoor was soooo much food but sooo tasty. Ful, bread, white cheese, tea, juice, water.I'm too full to lay here or think properly. I really think my stomach is shrinking. Makes you think about people who never get to have a huge meal, are always hungry, and never know when their next meal will come. I want to find a way to help. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Road to Grad School: June 2010

http://www.theroadtogradschool.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

The Road to Grad School. Friday, June 25, 2010. I've always been able to find a way- foregoing bill and other nuisances- in order to experience some adventure. I'm still hoping I can "hop" over to Ecuador during spring break and meet up with everyone down there for field school, say hello to all my friends in the community and all that. I don't know when I can get back there otherwise and I do miss everyone. After all, Egypt is just some one's home. Wednesday, June 23, 2010. Monday, June 21, 2010. I'm no...

Chasing Summer: Our little run in with the Ecuadorian border patrol

http://jynenebuffy.blogspot.com/2011/02/our-little-run-in-with-ecuadorian.html

Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Our little run in with the Ecuadorian border patrol. And so we returned to our rainy street side. With this, I (Jynene) decided I was unwilling to wait in the rain for a moment longer and begin hailing a cab so we could return to the bus terminal and see what our other options might be. Truthfully, I had been skeptical that waiting on the street would work anyway and thought the bus terminal was probably better. Why had we not been stamped in? He had placed our into Ecuador.

Chasing Summer: Our week with Shane

http://jynenebuffy.blogspot.com/2011/02/our-week-with-shane.html

Monday, February 7, 2011. Our week with Shane. All three of us climbed up to the roof of a beautiful church in the old down town. We got to see how the metal roof was attached to the cement structure of the building, and walk in between the external roof and the internal ceiling. At the end of this gang-plank type structure was a beautiful overlook of the city from one of the church spires. On the way back to the cabins we saw loads of birds and monkeys. That evening we went Piranha fishing. The Piranhas...

Chasing Summer: 11 Jan 11-Lake Titicaca

http://jynenebuffy.blogspot.com/2011/01/11-jan-11-lake-titicaca.html

Tuesday, January 11, 2011. 11 Jan 11-Lake Titicaca. These last few days we’ve been exploring the fabled Lake Titicaca, the mythical origin of the Incan people and, at about 13,000 ft above sea level, the highest lake in the world. We went on a 2 day tour that explored several islands in the Peruvian side of the lake (the lake sits on the Peru/Bolivia border). First, we visited Islas Flotantes, one of over 60 floating islands. These floating islands are man-made from reeds that grow in the lake. Touristy&...

Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Driving (again) in Agentina. December 28, 2010. Only a few more days of the year left and we are living it up “Pura Vida” style in Argentina. We met some lovely Germans on a bus between Mendoza and Salta and decided to tempt fate once more and embarked upon a five day car journey in northern Argentina. The trip ended well after a few wrong turns and lots of empanadas. We ended the trip tonight with a little. Nacional Calilegua, and. Chasing Summer, Our Year of Adventure. The b...

Chasing Summer: Chasing Dakar-Or rather being chased by Dakar!

http://jynenebuffy.blogspot.com/2011/01/chasing-dakar-or-rather-being-chased-by.html

Friday, January 7, 2011. Chasing Dakar-Or rather being chased by Dakar! January 7, 2011. Because of the Dakar race getting back to Salta, Argentina from the Bolivian border (south of La Quica) was difficult as was getting out of Salta and across to Chile. We travelled for many hours in a cramped SUV to cross the desolate border of Chile/Argentina in the west and arrived in San Pedro de Atacama on January 4. We arrived in Arica, a surfer’s paradise, on the 6. Border of Argentina and Chile.
