The Running Dude: September 2013

http://www.therunningdude01.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 25, 2013. 2013 - 24 HOUR OTTAWA SRI CHINMOY SELF-TRANSCENDENCE - POST RACE REPORT. You run around a square block of Queens. I did one of their 6 hour races in Kingston early this year which was quite an interesting experience. It is quite different running a certain number of hours rather than a specific distance. A set distance in a certain time may put off those that are concerned about finishing due to the difficulty of the course - terrain, elevation etc. No, we don't. They a...

Friday, August 1, 2014. 2014 - EASTERN STATES 100 MILES - RACE REPORT. Hello and welcome back to my blog - this entry features my upcoming running adventure, the inaugural Eastern States 100. Pennsylvania and starting at Little Pine State Park. There was a waiting list for this back in February which I joined and watched patiently as my name slowly but surely reached the top of the pile as other people dropped out from other commitments, injury or a realization that their training was not going to plan.

Monday, April 7, 2014. 2014 - LAURA SECORD MEMORIAL 100KM RACE REPORT. Welcome back my fellow intrepid ultra runners. It is two days following the first OUS race of 2014 and the good news is I have some ultra points in the bag. The bad news is at what cost. I made a comment on Facebook to one of my fellow runners that was out on the course with me that this was not a race, more like The Hunger Games! Let's look at the stats:. 69 intrepid souls towed the line at 5 am. Please bear with me. I tend to wr...

The Running Dude: October 2013

Thursday, October 10, 2013. 2013 - VULTURE BAIT 50KM - POST RACE REPORT. I had a poor 24 hour Ottawa result, only getting to 51 miles and calling it quits after 12.5 hours which having seen the results left me 4th from the bottom on that particular race. I was pretty disappointed with that but I guess ultra running has it's ups and downs and you have to regroup and learn from the experience and see what you need to do differently. That's about 17 marathons in one season. My goal when I started the se...

Welcome to the The Running Duck Farm! This site features pictures of the animals on our small farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with links to sites we found useful as we got started with poultry and ones we continue to enjoy. We began with Indian Runner Ducks. And have added guineas,. Sebastopol and Pilgrim geese. And Appenzeller Spitzhauben chickens. We have a small flock of sheep. And, of course, a cat. Overseeing the whole operation, we have a livestock guardian dog - a wonderful Akbash Dog.

Stories from the roads and trails. Hear all about it. Solo yet connected in the mountains. July 13, 2015. By Diederik van Hoogstraten. I’ve never understood people who call running boring. These days I simply say “sorry to hear it” or “maybe another sport could work”. But I still think what I used to say to people: if you’re bored you haven’t looked, listened, smelled,. Posted in Pictures I would never have taken if I weren't a runner. Old friends in new places. July 9, 2015. By Diederik van Hoogstraten.

Geek by trade. Runner for fun. Photographer. well, I'm trying. Sunday, July 31, 2011. This seems kind of strange to say since I'm not Superman and I certainly don't have any super powers (though that would be cool). Truth is I'm a below average runner who struggles with running as much as everyone else. A more appropriate title would be "What makes a slow guy go slower? One thing I have learned the past couple weeks when dealing with the heat is I need to slow down my goal pace. Running in heat is mu...
