Wednesday, May 23, 2012. It's almost over. I can’t believe it's almost over. I admit at the end of last week I was ecstatic at the thought that I was almost done. But, this week and especially today, it's really hitting me. I’ve been holding back tears all day long! I sat and pondered what I have been doing here as an English teacher for the last four months… the impact I have made on these children’s lives… the progress they have made… the impact they have made upon my. Children have so much to offer us...

the_russian_report: My Dust Tastes Sweet

http://therussianreport.blogspot.com/2012/03/my-dust-tastes-sweet.html

Saturday, March 31, 2012. My Dust Tastes Sweet. Before coming to Russia the article that most occupied my thoughts of my upcoming adventure was the teaching. I knew I would be doing some traveling and sightseeing, and that it was going to be preposterously cold! Why I’m here- to be a volunteer English teacher. But, to say that would be to taste a lie. Teaching was the thing I was most scared about. Would they dislike me and think I was no fun? Would I be too strict or too lenient? Could I really teach?

Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Letters From Loved Ones. Over the past four years I have learned and experienced a pure truth in the words, “Good things are worth waiting for.” Today was one of those special days when the worthwhile treasure for the waiting was received. I continued my morning with breakfast, getting ready, and reading a book before heading down to school for another day of teaching my wonderful sponge like students. A wonderful day still. Then for a run across the river! Links to this post.

Friday, April 13, 2012. Day 4 of living on my own. To those of you who don't know- My amazing roommate, Renae, went home on Tuesday due to health conditions. Man, I gotta say I miss having her here! The Lord gives us countless blessings in our lives. Some of My most cherished are the people he lays in my path to find throughout my journey here on Earth. I'm happy I can now add another dear friend to that list of cherished blessings. I love you Renae. Thanks for everything. It's all sparkly clean now!

My thoughts on life and experiences therein. Wednesday, August 5, 2009. I don't know if these people qualify as homeless. They have quite the set up. Many large boxes, shacks made of wooden planks, you name it, all covered with tarps to increase insulation and provide weather protection. Radios, racks built to hold potted vegetables and flowers, bicycles for transportation. . . like a very very small community under each bridge. Only with more success. http://ellenrenae.blogspot.com/2014/05/different-culture.html

My thoughts on life and experiences therein. Sunday, May 18, 2014. Thursday May 15, 2014. Class was overly frustrating today. Probably primarily on account that our culture teacher was under the impression that all of us were fourth year Chinese students. The content was way over my head. He was telling us about dragon boat festivals and racing- most of which I only understood after spending about 20 minutes trying to translate a few sentences of the handout he gave us. Haha. Fun Most people in the circl...

Exploring Russian Culture... | Languages Cultures Experiences

Exploring Russian Culture…. October 12, 2009. Suffixes in the Russian language. In a recent translation of War and Peace, Platon Karataev, Tolstoy’s kindly peasant, addresses his interlocutor as little falcon . It just doesn’t sound right, reminding of someone from Fenimore Cooper’s The Last of the Mohicans. Remember Montigomo Hawk’s Claw? Actually, little falcon is a literal translation of the Russian word sokolik, an intimacy or endearment that is still used by older people. The suffix ka (as in Mashka...
