Pearls and Vacuums: November 2010
http://sewaholicsummer.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
The misadventures of a beginning seamstress who thinks she's a fashion designer. Sunday, November 21, 2010. I drawrd sum pikters 4u. I feel like such a five year old. I can't draw. At all. I used a croquis that I found online and very carefully sketched from the line drawings of my patterns. I might start doing this for all of my projects. It was so much fun! No less than 3". This won't be started for a couple of months so don't expect pictures any time soon. My plan for this dress? Channeling Annette...

Pearls and Vacuums: May 2011
http://sewaholicsummer.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
The misadventures of a beginning seamstress who thinks she's a fashion designer. Monday, May 23, 2011. I have this pink, boatneck, 3/4 sleeve shirt that I absolutely love. The problem? I somehow managed to snag a thread on one of the sleeves about 1/5 of the way up. Blah. I haven't worn the shirt in about a year because I didn't know how to fix it. I wasn't willing to give it up, though. Yesterday I figured, what the heck, I can't mess it up anymore than it is. Right? I could make a pin! Re-purposing, up...

Pearls and Vacuums: Yumminess and a Day Off
http://sewaholicsummer.blogspot.com/2011/03/yumminess-and-day-off.html
The misadventures of a beginning seamstress who thinks she's a fashion designer. Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Yumminess and a Day Off. Cafe du Monde and Coffee Call ain't got nothin' on this girl! Big Tex told me they were better than what you get at those two places. That made my heart swell. Thanks, honey! I have a picture of him with powdered sugar all over the tip of his nose to prove it. I promised not to put it up, though. You'll just have to settle for a picture of the beignets. Here’s what’...

Pearls and Vacuums: July 2011
http://sewaholicsummer.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
The misadventures of a beginning seamstress who thinks she's a fashion designer. Wednesday, July 6, 2011. I'm on day 3 of the honey face wash and baking soda rinse. So far I'm satisfied with the honey. The immediate result is non-flushed cheeks and soft skin. My rising oiliness has also seemingly subsided. I'm definitely willing to stick it out to see more long-term results. The baking soda rinse? I'm just lazy when it comes to fixing my hair. That's probably my real problem. Since I don't want to ruin m...

Pearls and Vacuums: January 2011
http://sewaholicsummer.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
The misadventures of a beginning seamstress who thinks she's a fashion designer. Sunday, January 30, 2011. It was at that point that I realized I have toothpick arms. I feel so much better knowing there are other people out there facing the exact same challenges as me. They, however, will buy the full priced Ann Taylor, Banana Republic and J.Crew clothes. Yeah Not gonna do that. Because Hancock Fabrics will have their 5 Simplicity patterns for $5. Yes, please. Just nod your head and agree. There's also a...

Pearls and Vacuums: July 4th & Granola
http://sewaholicsummer.blogspot.com/2011/07/july-4th-granola.html
The misadventures of a beginning seamstress who thinks she's a fashion designer. Monday, July 4, 2011. July 4th and Granola. First of all: Happy Fourth of July everyone! I have a whole new appreciation for The Land of the Free and The Land Flowing with Milk and Honey after my visit to France. Don't get me wrong, it was the opportunity of a lifetime, but it I learned to be content with where I am. More on that in a later post, though. Where does granola fit in with all of this? I don't know why not. A hor...

Pearls and Vacuums: Sew-Along! Cutting Out the Fabric & Joining the Pieces
http://sewaholicsummer.blogspot.com/2011/02/sew-along-cutting-out-fabric-joining.html
The misadventures of a beginning seamstress who thinks she's a fashion designer. Monday, February 21, 2011. Cutting Out the Fabric and Joining the Pieces. Ready to cut out the fabric? You'll want to start by ironing the fabrics to take out any wrinkles and creases. This will help ensure your pieces will be even and lay correctly. Oh, the selvage is the woven edge of the fabric that won't fray. Place a pin along this line and then measure further up. This is what you'll have. Notice I drew a lower wai...

Pearls and Vacuums: October 2010
http://sewaholicsummer.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
The misadventures of a beginning seamstress who thinks she's a fashion designer. Saturday, October 30, 2010. Big Tex made these for breakfast this morning. I'm so lucky to have a husband who cooks. I found this recipe a while back on Joy the Baker's blog. They're called Easy Cinnamon Roll Muffins. And they are delicious. I would have eaten two but I ran out of coffee. *sad face* The recipe can be found here. Autumn is becoming my favorite season. I think it's because it tends to be a family oriented ...

Pearls and Vacuums: February 2011
http://sewaholicsummer.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
The misadventures of a beginning seamstress who thinks she's a fashion designer. Tuesday, February 22, 2011. To tell you the truth I'm worn slap out. I didn't sleep any Sunday night. I think I made up for it last night, but was awoken from a deep dream state by the alarm. I had a last minute appointment with my eye doctor. I had put my yearly check up off by.8 months? First, iron your seam open. Then, fold one side to the middle, pressing as you go. Now, fold and iron the other. Wasn't that super easy?
