The Second Guess: February 2009

http://thesecondguess.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 24, 2009. A Late Submission: My Top Ten Movies of 2008. Posted by Matthew Blake Williams at 2:24 PM. Ok, some lighter fare for a blog that's been a bit heavy-handed lately. I know I'm SUPER late in getting this out, especially since the final word has already been said with the close of the Academy Awards Sunday night, but I still wanted to get my own top ten list up before I start working on 2009! So, without further ado - my favorite films of 2008. 10 Marley and Me. A certain other di...

The Second Guess: One Year Later

http://thesecondguess.blogspot.com/2011/05/one-year-later.html

Monday, May 09, 2011. Posted by Matthew Blake Williams at 11:40 PM. My Scrabble cake from one year ago. I did it. I went a whole year without posting an update. No fresh thoughts. No inspiring words. (Some might argue it's been longer than a year since that happened, anyway.) No lists of three things. Just a year of silence. Writing a blog is just one way I can activate that purpose. But when I write, I'm motivated to live as well. To act. To be the person I write about. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Friday, May 08, 2009. I Am Not Alone. Posted by Matthew Blake Williams at 11:26 AM. Some time ago, my roommate pointed me to a blog. I'll have a lot more to say about Andy and The Marin Foundation in coming weeks, I'm sure. First, I'm gonna finish reading the book and enjoy the time I get to spend with him next week! The Second Guess: The Quiet Life

http://thesecondguess.blogspot.com/2010/05/quiet-life.html

Tuesday, May 04, 2010. Posted by Matthew Blake Williams at 8:58 AM. Some days it's really tempting to go the quiet, easy route. Move to Portland or Denver, build a small life doing the things I love with a few people I can trust. Stop troubling over "the state of things" and just enjoy being where I am while I'm here. To respond on September 11. Does anyone really need to take on the mantle for reconciliation between Christians and gay people in San Diego? Still - on days like today, when I can really to...

Reno Pho Restaurant Reviews | Living Refuge

Reno Pho Restaurant Reviews. Wednesday, May 05, 2010. As an exciting new post for springtime, I thought I'd give my two cents into the wild variety of Pho restaurants in Reno. I'm a certified Pho addict and could eat the delicious soupy soup everyday. Maybe you were wondering which pho restaurant in Reno is the best? 3 out of 5. 3 out of 5. 2 out of 5. Asian Noodles, near Costco in Central Reno, seems to always be busy at lunch, and for good reason. They offer a variety of soups and noodle dishes asi...

I Don't Normally Post Food Reviews. But I Couldn't Help It. Wednesday, August 04, 2010. Trader Joe's prepackaged cinnamon rolls are absolutely amazing. Seriously. I think they are the best cinnamon roll I've ever had. They are in the refrigerated section near the biscuits. Just pop the rolls in the oven and you're on your way. Wow I need more of these. My Della Santa Steel Road Bike | Living Refuge

http://www.livingrefuge.com/2009/03/my-della-santa-steel-road-bike.html

My Della Santa Steel Road Bike. Monday, March 30, 2009. It's getting time to polish off my Della Santa steel bike and get ready for a great spring riding season. Hopefully the year will start off on a better track - last year my chain jumped the rear cassette causing my classic Campagnolo derailleur to collaspe into the spokes. This ended up being a big mess. Paradise Lake Backpacking Trip. Thursday, July 29, 2010. This past weekend, Heather and I took a trip up the PCT north of Donner Lake to Paradise Lake. We've never really backpacked in that area and took a tip from a friend to try it out. The trip to the trailhead nearly as exciting as the hike itself. Our trusty 4Runner shaved 3 miles off a boring hike to the PCT trailhead. The best part? Gotta love the 4Runner. After a generally unenjoyable night, I had about 40 bites. That was it. Thursday, August 21, 2008. I hate voting season. I hate the political banners strung on fences, television commercials, and radio ads. They are all worthless to me. From a marketers point of view, this idea of mass marketing only pushes people like me further away from the candidates. Then there are the issues. Environment, social justice, the economy, the war, taxes - the list goes on. The irony of it all? I hate "who are you voting for" conversations. Honestly. It'll only end up in arguments.

Renoites Invade the U.S. Virgin Islands. Friday, February 20, 2009. The past couple months have been busy. In January, we took an anniversary trip to St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. The trip was exhaustive, leaving Reno at 11am on a Tuesday and arriving in St. Thomas at 12:30pm on Wednesday. Once we crossed the bay and got our car, we finally arrived at our campground at 3:30pm. What a long trip! Living Refuge By Rob Woods. Follow me on Twitter. Vague Impression - Reno Photographer.

9 Ways To Reduce Plastic Bottle Waste At Your Workplace. Thursday, June 25, 2009. Great article on going green at the workplace and helping to reduce plastic bottle waste. I'm a huge fan of reusable bottles and have my Nalgene nearly everywhere I go. In fact, when I'm away from my Nalgene I feel like I've lost a part of my soul :). Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Why do the poor have so many kids? In this column I intend to tackle the second question about the poor having many kids. Here the obvious conclusion that one must draw is that the poor are poor because they have so many kids who need to be fed and clothed; if only they did not procreate with such fecundity, then they can easily find a way out of poverty. There are different ways of thinking about this. Let me explain. In many third world countries – which may not have ch...
