The Second Lifer: April 2010

http://www.thesecondlifer.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

For now, this is a notepad for a workshop series on "the SL-ness of SL" that I will be hosting inworld. Wednesday, April 28, 2010. What is it that I remember, when I remember SL. I was thinking about memory, about the Me-component of my memories, about how my body is part of many memories: its position, actions, movements, experiences. That made me realize one of the defining effects of embodiment in SL. I remember talking, not typing: I remember the words we spoke and the feelings that they brought forth.

The Second Lifer: January 2011

For now, this is a notepad for a workshop series on "the SL-ness of SL" that I will be hosting inworld. Monday, January 31, 2011. I was thinking about art in SL, specifically sculpture/installation art, and wondering why it works. This came up when I sent somebody a snapshot of Bryn Oh's lovely and poignant Rabbicorn. We started talking about what it was that our typists were looking at. But why do we do this? The reason is the immersive experience of being somewhere,. Yes, I know the Lindens dropped out...

The Second Lifer: September 2010

http://www.thesecondlifer.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

For now, this is a notepad for a workshop series on "the SL-ness of SL" that I will be hosting inworld. Sunday, September 12, 2010. More about SL and WoW. I've noticed another great and I think significant difference between Second Life and World of Warcraft: Connectivity and the context of my identity. WoW is more like a set of parallel universes: it is a relatively small world which is duplicated identically on many hundreds of servers. Each. Why should you need. RL deals with the problem of non-unique...

Wol looks at the world: More wiping

http://wolworld.blogspot.com/2011/05/more-wiping.html

Wol looks at the world. The musings of a Second Life™ avatar. Monday, 16 May 2011. From somebody who ran ahead of the group, got out of sight and was hammered. I see that differently. If I (the healer) tell you I'm out of energy (unable to do any healing in the immediate future) and sit down to replenish energy, and if you (the tank or DPSer) then walk away from me and get into trouble: that's your own damned fault and it serves you right. Healing is a fulfilling role. However, on the other hand, many pl...

Wol looks at the world: April 2010

http://wolworld.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Wol looks at the world. The musings of a Second Life™ avatar. Monday, 5 April 2010. I'm preparing a weekly workshop on the SL-ness of SL. To be given at the Kira centre this summer. (I'm writing about it publicly here in the hope that this might just get me off my arse to do something about this idea, which I've been talking about since last Autumn.) I will be using the Second Lifer. Blog to record and develop ideas for sessions and exercises. The general themes will be appearance, character and identity.

Wol looks at the world: March 2010

http://wolworld.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Wol looks at the world. The musings of a Second Life™ avatar. Saturday, 27 March 2010. For want of a nail. In the last few weeks, SL has been watching the Tragedy of the Commons. Acted out in virtual miniature, in the widely lamented but apparently inevitable demise of a popular and socially successful roleplaying worldlet based on the film "Avatar.". Now, if you divide those tier fees by 2000 group members, you get US 7 cents per person per week, times 52 weeks in a year is US$3.64. So go look u...And s...

Wol looks at the world: Tank

http://wolworld.blogspot.com/2012/02/tank.html

Wol looks at the world. The musings of a Second Life™ avatar. Wednesday, 8 February 2012. An embarrassingly long time ago I wrote:. I've had good runs through difficult dungeons, where the team moved as one and nobody died, and the difference is largely due to the tank. A good tank makes a good run, and a bad tank makes a bad run, whoever else is on the team. It's that simple. Well it's not quite. Paladins are a great class. And play both side-by-side for a while, to see which I prefer. The role of the t...

http://wolworld.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Wol looks at the world. The musings of a Second Life™ avatar. Saturday, 26 June 2010. Towards a theory of fun. I'm reading Edward Castronova's book Exodus to the virtual world. Which will be on the recommended-reading list for my workshop this summer. Castronova is an economist, but is actually interested in people rather than just money. Saturday, 19 June 2010. Todays (final) topic: If you're a veteran. Did you find this year to be harder or easier than previous years? Did you have fun? Do you portray a...

http://wolworld.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Wol looks at the world. The musings of a Second Life™ avatar. Thursday, 22 July 2010. I've been slaughtering my way through World of Warcraft for a forthnight now, and have finally arrived at what feels like a character and a mode of being that I can enjoy. (I wrote about the differences and similarities between WoW and SL on my workshop blog.). Friday, 16 July 2010. On the death of a prim. She TP'd me to a field of slender white columns. Wol looks at the world: Eighty

http://wolworld.blogspot.com/2013/09/eighty.html

Wol looks at the world. The musings of a Second Life™ avatar. Saturday, 14 September 2013. After more than three years of playing World of Warcraft, I've finally pushed a character up to level 80. This is possibly a record for slowness. The winner is my night elf hunter Siegrune. She's now pushing at level 81, and it's time to leave Northrend although I've only scratched the surface there. But she will move on serenely, without a backward glance at all the incomplete quests and stories. Somebody ...Is wh...

http://wolworld.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Wol looks at the world. The musings of a Second Life™ avatar. Monday, 13 September 2010. I had a new experience last night: I accompanied someone during her first steps in Second Life. Sidi is now a resident of SL: the first person whom I've told about it face-to-face in my RL who actually made the leap. We sat side-by-side in her RL office as she created an account and took her first steps in-world. A world not a game, a society not an entertainment. In fairness, it has to be said that she was prime...

The Second Life 0f Trees

The Second Life 0f Trees. Saturday, December 7, 2013. Share Christ's Passion for the Harvest. God has given us so much, our very lives, and we have the obligation and opportunity every day to share that with someone, believer and nonbeliever. He asked us to be a part of increasing His harvest by tending His crops and according to our ability. He equips us with everything we need. In the parable of the talents, Jesus tells us He expects us to do our part. Pray that we glorify God in everything. Jesus ...

Thursday, June 4, 2015. I need to organize my inventory. So as the procrastinator that I am I decided to shop the marketplace and destination guide instead.
