Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. February 5, 2014. Yesterday was my maternal grandparents’ anniversary. 63 years, my mother told me. We lost both of them in the last year. Nana on Dec 28th, 2012 and Pop on June 20th, 2013. They were both such pillars of my family that life feels weird without them. But, more on that perhaps in another post. My grandmother was a character. A firecracker, if you will… and I think you will. Pop in the back, on the left. Nana in the front, on the left.

Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Category Archives: Making Stuff. Making Stuff: A (Pop Up) Sketchbook. January 30, 2014. Who doesn’t love a pop up book? Crazy people, that’s who (or bibliophobics, I guess). Enter: the Sketchbook Project. A few years ago my mamma. Participated in this little experiment run by the Brooklyn Art Library in, you guessed it, Brooklyn NY. Oh no, wait. No That’s not what happened at all. Go; go and see it! It’s full of fun facts about paper planes. He likes hi...

Healing, Grace, and Sometimes Hobbits. Saturday, May 31, 2014. Spitting Out the Bones: A C.S. Lewis Series. If you've been around a group of Christians for any period of time, you've heard or read a C.S. Lewis quote. The Inklings Etc.: December 2014

Healing, Grace, and Sometimes Hobbits. Sunday, December 21, 2014. 7 (Not So Quick) Takes: Life-Changing Literary Works. Or perhaps thought-changing would be a better term. These are books that challenged my thinking or shifted a paradigm. (These are not particularly "quick" takes, and it's no longer Friday. Oh well.). The Giver, by Lois Lowry. For Your Own Good, by Alice Miller. Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. Justice, by George MacDonald. Fist, Stick, Knife, Gun, by Geoffrey Canada. Those a...

Out of her tree: Overheard
http://www.outofhertree.ca/2013/12/overheard.html
Monday, December 16, 2013. Do you know what it's called when someone can do more than one thing at a time? And there's this boy in my class. His name is A. And he can multitask! He can talk AND get ready for recess. AT. THE. SAME. TIME! Oh the wonder of childhood. I love it. And I love him. December 17, 2013 at 4:06 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Best of The Tree. Because the dead pig was in the trunk. Bras that go creak in the night. The big boy bed. All cool things come to those who rock.

In the Sheepfold: A Baby at 43, A Baby at 45
http://inthesheepfold.blogspot.com/2010/12/open-to-life.html
Wednesday, December 15, 2010. A Baby at 43, A Baby at 45. The older boys are pining for another baby. They adore John and Ainsley. Well, to be strictly accurate, Tim adores John and Ainsley. Kolbe adores Ainsley and (mostly) tolerates John. Except when he doesn't. Anyway. They are anxious for another. As we were loading up the van the other morning, Kolbe raised the issue. We have to keep up with the Balduccis. He said. "Aunt Rachel has six kids, and she's younger than you! 1 This is not a competition.

June 2015 – Love Bids Us Welcome
https://lovebidsuswelcome.wordpress.com/2015/06
Love Bids Us Welcome. It’s Crunch Time. In CS Lewis’ book. That Hideous Strength,. This week has been a difficult one for me, and for anyone who craves peace and approval above all. I hate conflict, and I hate not being able to please everybody in my life. I don’t even like being around fights that don’t involve me; I’m that annoying person who makes a joke on contentious Facebook threads because I can’t stand the tension. Unfortunately (or fortunately? The other issue is that of sexuality and gender in ...

Love Bids Us Welcome. 7 Quick Takes: Food Allergies. Dermographism – no pens required. In typical middle school angst mode, I decided I would “never ever” know what the deal was. Eventually we were able to do a test, and I was allergic to wheat, corn, and oats. Let me tell you, the coolest lunch you can bring to school is NOT rice cakes with peanut butter. October 9, 2015. October 8, 2015. Usually I try to keep things light on Seven Quick Takes, but there is so much sadness right now that I can’t m...
