The Side Trips

The View From Here. Thursday, January 19, 2012. Sunset with Volcano Villarrica. The season here in Chile has been dry. We showed up to Pucon just as the last bit of water was draining from the “Classics”. The Rio Nevados, running mostly on rain through December, left us with just a taste of its amazing canyons before it dropped below boatable levels. Many other creeks and rivers have fallen victim to a light snow pack and no rain. One of many flats on our roadtrips. View from the road to the Fuy. We kick...

The Side Trips: Chilean Misadventure Part 2:

http://thesidetrips.blogspot.com/2011/12/chilean-misadventure-part-2.html

The View From Here. Friday, December 23, 2011. Chilean Misadventure Part 2:. The Delica's last ride. We spent the remainder of the day trying to formulate an escape route from the van. We had all come to terms with the fact that the van was dead and the money that we had spent on it would most likely never be seen again. But we had one small problem…What should we do with it now? We woke early on Monday morning and prepared the van for the tow. We were finally going to be free of this thing! Working with...

The View From Here. The View From Here. What is the View From Here? It is the way we look at life from where we are standing, where we have come from and where we think we are headed. The View From Here. Sunday, September 13, 2009. After months of planning and way too much packing, the day has finally come to leave the home base of my parents' house. These last few days have given me a chance to tie up loose ends and get some much needed rest. The next 3 months will be filled with new experiences and hopefully some good pictures! I can't wait to see you all on the other side! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Picture Window template. Template images by andynwt.

WHITE water: July 2013

http://akwhitewater.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Liquid and Frozen Adventures in the Last Frontier. Monday, July 15, 2013. The "New" Upper Willow Creek. Upper Willow Creek is like a friend that has had a serious brain injury; it is essentially the same, but it isn't quite all there. Brief rapid descriptions from a resent descent at 350 cfs for those of you who are curious. I have not run Upper Willow Creek at this low of a flow and do not know exactly what it looked like before the floods in fall of 2012). Trip with a nice boof in The Shire. It is REAL...

Liquid and Frozen Adventures in the Last Frontier. Friday, February 24, 2012. New Experiences: the long awaited Chile post. I've been back just over a month and I'm finally getting around to posting about Chile. I guess it has taken me a month to process everything from my first international kayaking trip. Chile was a very humbling experience. Front man, Evan Garcia. After tail lighting the Upper Palguin. I spent my first few weeks at the Pucon Kayak Hostel. Yeah sure, you're likely to break your boat, ...

WHITE water: January 2013

http://akwhitewater.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Liquid and Frozen Adventures in the Last Frontier. Sunday, January 20, 2013. 2012 had plenty of water, I might start to venture to say too much water. Some things raged nearly out of control all summer, while others would hang out of control for most of the season just to plummet to less than ideal. All in all it was a good season, that always had something to do. Between the endless water and endless light there was a lot of kayaking. Raging nearly out of control:. With the late fall high water a bunch ...

WHITE water: Rules of Engagement

http://akwhitewater.blogspot.com/2012/04/rules-of-engagement.html

Liquid and Frozen Adventures in the Last Frontier. Saturday, April 21, 2012. Sixmile is on the rise, boats are thawing out of the snow banks, and the stoke is high. It is nearly time to get out there and start firing it up. While there is plenty of time this year to unleash the honey badger, now is also a good time to review essencial skills. How are your first aid/cpr skills? Do you know how to set a dislocated shoulder? Is your first aid kit complete? Do you even have a first aid kit? Those around me w...

Liquid and Frozen Adventures in the Last Frontier. Friday, June 17, 2011. Last weekend I finally got around to running the infamous Upper Willow Creek. I made a short video of our day, but it hardly does the run any justice. 2011 Willow Creek Festival. The Willow Creek Festival has been revived thanks to Susitna Sled and Kayak. And Alaska Kayak Academy. The two groups got together and put on a great event! All in all it was an amazing event and I'm looking forward to going to this event for years to come!

WHITE water: Game On

http://akwhitewater.blogspot.com/2012/06/game-on.html

Liquid and Frozen Adventures in the Last Frontier. Monday, June 4, 2012. An hour and a half North of Anchorage is one of the best creeks in Alaska. Upper Willow Creek has everything; pristine clear water, a dramatic granite canyon, steep gradient (the canyon averages 250 ft/mile), lots of sieves and undercuts, gigantic boofs, and challenging rapids. For lack of a better word, Upper Willow Creek is stout. It's June and time to get the butterflies flying in formation and send it! Things to luc at.
