Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf. May 8, 2015 /. An open letter to Conservative voters. Whilst I am pleased for the SNP’s victory- I’ve gone on national TV and said I would vote for them if I could- I am upset, angry and perplexed by the lack of Labour seats, when they’ve had the most successful campaign of all the parties, and now we are going to lose Miliband who could have been a reasonable prime minister. So, here’s an open letter to Tory voters. I hope you’re happy. Than Labour did in 13. Will con...

Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf. May 1, 2015. This is where the fun begins…. The hard graft is over. I’ve paid my dues, done my time. I’ve been living at home for the last 5 months, working, saving, recovering from a broken ankle, writing, planning and dreaming about my summer of travel. That is, travel for travel’s sake, with the addition of a work placement so awesome that it’s not going to feel like work. The summer of a freaking lifetime. I’ll most certainly be keeping a diary throughout all this,...

A Switzerland Adventure. | Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf.
https://thesingingbookshelf.com/2015/05/30/a-switzerland-adventure
Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf. May 30, 2015 /. I have just spent 11 days in what is now my favourite European country. From the food and the music to the scenery and the infrastructure, it really is an outstanding country. Spending such a long time here was quite a break from my usual travelling pattern of city-eat-sleep-travel-repeat, but it was worth it to experience so many new things. Y first home-cooked dinner of. Day four (Monday now) was spent in an effort at spontaneity. I took the first...

Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf. July 27, 2015. Thoughts on travelling alone. Is it a more rich cultural experience, or a lonely slog? Well, I’ve had a mix of solo travelling experiences over the past few months, and after all of them, I can definitely confirm that I prefer employing a nice human to share the journey with me. It’s not that I feel unsafe or am incapable of travelling alone, I just get lonely. That particular crying episode was soon abated with a microwaved pizza dinner, some Haribo and...

Why do I want to be a journalist? | Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf.
https://thesingingbookshelf.com/2015/03/20/why-do-i-want-to-be-a-journalist
Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf. March 20, 2015. Why do I want to be a journalist? I want to be a journalist? I’m going to be brief here. There are three broad categories which organise the many and varied reasons as to why I want to be a journalist. These are professional, personal and ethical. Let’s start with a dollop of personal. I’m naturally curious and inquisitive. I love to research, nosy into things and tell a story. I know that I will be challenged, scared and excited by any day. Journalists...

Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf. April 29, 2015 /. Wow I finally did it. I got a tattoo. I scarred my body for life. I’ve always had mixed feelings about tattoos, and to be honest, I thought I’d back out today, but in the end, I did it! For those who are wondering, yes, it did hurt. I got it done just above my ankle, and it felt like being stung by a bee repeatedly for 10 minutes. Ouchies. The last stanza goes like this:. For there is no friend like a sister. In calm or stormy weather;. You are commen...

What was this summer? | Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf.

Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf. August 30, 2015. What was this summer? I have just come back from the United States after working at a summer camp for eight weeks and travelling the east coast for two. Whilst the primary reason for my being there was to work, I was the luckiest girl in the world to be placed at a camp with a Monday-Friday week. Every weekend off, coupled with the two weeks of travelling I took after camp, made my summer. This was my summer. It was that midnight run to Taco Bell.

Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf. April 15, 2015 /. In defence of Sansa Stark. I uploaded this on another blog about a year ago, but seeing as Series 5 of Game of Thrones has started, it seems relevant to re-publish😀. Whenever I talk about Game of Thrones with friends and this character comes up, there’s always some form of groan followed by Ugh, she’s so pathetic . But do you know why she acted like that? Margery- only befriends her to find how best to play Joffrey. She saw her father’s head cut off,...

Emily Davis, the singing bookshelf. March 28, 2015 /. Shaving my head, one year on…. Exactly one year ago today, I shaved off all of my hair to raise money for charity. It wasn’t really a spur of the moment decision. I thought about it for a few months then made a spontaneous Facebook post detailing when it was going to happen (as it turned out, in a marquee outside my 6th form with 200 people watching). For years, and by getting rid of it, I saw my WHOLE face for the first time! The really difficult par...
