What I'm reading now. Enter your search terms. Monday, June 17, 2013. This is Running For Your Life: Essays, Michelle Orange. A singularly talented voice. Michelle Orange's propulsively readable essays take the reader across the globe, and through time, but always returning to define here and now. This is the kind of writing that makes one's hair stand on end. Brilliant, thought-provoking, and memorable. This Is Running For Your Life. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Lexacat's List: You Are One Of Them, Elliot Holt
http://lexacatslist.blogspot.com/2013/06/you-are-one-of-them-elliot-holt.html
What I'm reading now. Enter your search terms. Monday, June 17, 2013. You Are One Of Them, Elliot Holt. This was the best novel I've read this year, easily. When 2 young girls write to Yuri Andropov in 1982, neither could have known that their lives would be changed forever. The narrator's haunting voice leads the reader through a tangle of betrayals and deceptions, through Cold War D.C. to modern Moscow, and offers no easy answers. You Are One Of Them. What I'm reading now. Enter your search terms. Monday, June 17, 2013. The Disaster Diaries: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Apocalypse , Sam Sheridan. The most paranoid man alive? Or the most prepared? This entertaining and disturbing book is part confession, part how-to, part amusing narrative of some extraordinary exploits! This will make a great gift to some of my more twitchy friends. ;). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Ed King, by David Guterson. Zone One, by Colson Whitehead. Best A...

Lexacat's List: Frozen Solid, James Tabor

What I'm reading now. Enter your search terms. Monday, June 17, 2013. Frozen Solid, James Tabor. This book has gripping descriptions of the South Pole research stations, and the claustrophobic setting adds ambience to an already chilling (excuse the pun! Hallie must find out what is going on, in time to save the station- and the world, but this clever thriller offers some thorught-provoking questions about what "saving the world" might mean. What I'm reading now. Enter your search terms. Monday, June 17, 2013. It's Only Slow Food Until You Try to Eat It: Misadventures of a Suburban Hunter-Gatherer , Bill Heavey. This was a very well written and well done book about how to see the food in front of our eyes, and how to go about eating it! More than an entertaining read, this surprisingly powerful books has me looking for local edibles in my own area, and thinking much more about what it means to eat locally. What I'm reading now. Enter your search terms. Monday, June 17, 2013. Pain, Parties, Work: Sylvia Plath in New York, Summer 1953 , Elizabeth Winder. This book is a fascinating glimpse into what the author argues is the most transformative time of Sylvia Plath's short life- the summer of 1953, she interned for Mademoiselle. Some excellent tidbits of information- the background to the poem A Mad Girl's Love Song (one of my favorite pieces of Plath juvenilia) was a treat to read. Ed King, by David Guterson.

The Broad Street Pump. Weird in a good way. like going to the gym drunk." Jack Donaghy. Sunday, August 23, 2009. A Preamble to the Healthcare Debate. Argument, not a practical one. Can we all step back a moment and look at our health care system with fresh eyes? But imagine that you had no preconceptions of how health care in this country should function. how would you set it up? The Broad Street Pump. Weird in a good way. like going to the gym drunk." Jack Donaghy. Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Coachella 2010: Condoms and Coccidiomycosis. As my last post informed you our trip to the Coachella Music and Arts Festival was dual-purpose. checking out some sweet live music and distributing 10,000 free condoms to the dirty, sweaty, drunken masses to that they'd keep their herpes to themselves. I'd like to report that we were successful in those endeavors. as well as many more. Eduardo is...

The Broad Street Pump. Weird in a good way. like going to the gym drunk." Jack Donaghy. Friday, September 19, 2008. Where to Find $12,000,000? We name academic buildings and residence halls after donors right? I propose we sell the rights to name each individual dorm room on campus for a donation of $500. I'd love to remind anyone living in 312 Merrow that it was once my room, back when cockroaches were the problem as opposed to being tripled up. .
