Tuesday, March 25, 2014. 12300;お彼岸だよ」と週末に友人から届いた彼女の実家の立派なぼたもちの写真に煽られて、今年も作りましたよ。先日北海道産の小豆を見つけたので、はりきってあんこを作ったら調子に乗りすぎて作りすぎてしまいました。ぼたもちに必要なあんこなんてたかが知れているのね、降り返ってみたら毎回同じ過ちを繰り返している私。小分けにして冷凍することにしました。秋のお彼岸のおはぎの準備は万端。今週また雪が降るらしいから、お水で薄めてお汁粉も楽しめそう。日本ではもう桜が花開く時期にさしかかっているらしいけど、まだまだ雪の残るこちらは春と呼ぶにはほど遠いほど寒いです。 真如寺を訪れたときのこと。母と菩薩様が説法をしている絵を見ていると、菩薩様の顎のあたりに何か付いてるのに気づきよく見てみるとそれは渦巻き状のお髭。「え〜、菩薩様って男性だったの〜？」あまりの衝撃に母にも言えずに頭の中で反芻。中学の修学旅行で奈良で弥勒菩薩を見て以来ӌ...8230;とここで話は終わりそうなのだけど、その数日後長楽寺を訪ねたときのこと。このお寺さんにも菩薩様が説...

Friday, May 10, 2013. 去年の秋に植えたチューリップ。所狭しと玄関先を彩っています。チューリップって光の加減で開いたり閉じたりするのご存知ですか？最初に花が咲いた日、午後には花が開き過ぎているのに気づき、たった一日で花が散っちゃうとがっかりしていたら、翌朝しっかりとシェイプアップして形よく佇んでいるのを発見。その後、一週間過ぎた今も鮮やかに春の色を披露しています。 おっと失礼、マリリンがカメラにお尻を向けてます。マリリンの左側には水仙が咲いてますね。ピンクの八重桜は今が盛り。ちょっと遠くに見える白いのがヨシノ種の桜。もう少し通りを行くと拳の花が最後のひとときを楽しんでいるのが見られます。 この広場、６月の終わり頃から毎週月曜日にファーマーズ・マーケットが開きます。野菜や卵を持ってくる地元の農家の他にベイカリーやロブスターを売る漁師の人たちもお店を開き、夏の夕方のひとときを過ごす町の人たちの憩いの場となります。 どうして母の日の週末かというと、「母の日のプレゼントに植物はいかが？」という訳ではなく、この辺りでは母の日...引っ越してきた翌春に植えたアスパラガス。今年はいよ...

Sunday, July 7, 2013. さてさて久方ぶりです。こちらももうすっかり夏。７月が一年のうちで一番暑い時期のようで２０日あたりに暑さのピークを迎え、そのあとだんだん涼しくなっていきます。今日も蝉の声を聞きながら夏満喫。ここニューイングランドは日本ほどではないけれど湿気が多く、今日もじっとり汗をかく一日。緯度的に涼しそうにみえるのだけど、午後４時現在気温は３３度。このくらい暑くならないと庭のトマトが育たないから、真っ赤に熟れたおいしいトマトを思いながらがまんがまん。 暑い盛りに暑い話はもう十分なので、今日はアメリカのスーパーマーケットについてお話してみましょう。学生の頃カルフォルニアの大学の３週間のプログラムでオークランドに滞在したときに初めてスーパーに行ったときのことを買い物に行くとよく思い出します。目にするものどれもがスーパーサイズ。今では当たり前になってしまっているのがちょっと残念‥。 もっと栄養価の高いものをということでニンジン。日本のニンジンよりずっと細身。長さは日本のものと同じくらいなのでどのくらい細いのかは写真から検討がつくと思います。...その上に見えるのがボクチョイと呼ばれ...

Now, they are much taller than these dogs. Speaking of confusion, it seems she has been having a hard time to figure out where she's suppose to make a turn. Left is a view from my eye height.
