Thursday, November 29, 2012. A Cottage in the Woods. A few weeks ago, Noah decided that he really needed to get out of the city and drive. As a boy who grew up in a small town, his heart often desires to hit the pavement until it turns into a dirt road. When these times happen, we are often stumped with the question “where do we go? When we pulled off the road onto the dirt path, I sucked in my cheeks and held my breath – it was perfect! This is the upstairs loft where Elle slept. Enjoying some hot cocoa.

Friday, December 7, 2012. We found out three days before Christmas last year that we were expecting again. I was filled with sheer joy and terror all at the same time. What if we lost this baby too? I remember hearing the words from one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs “…next year our troubles will be out of sight…” and I thought, yes! Next year we will. Some nights there is a hint of "not again." and a dread of being awake for the day long before the sun makes his appearance, but some nights there is a longing so strong to smell the sweet baby shampoo on the tips of his hair that I make it to his side in record time when he cries out for me in the pre dawn hours. Wakings and all. It will be over in the blink of an eye. I am thankful for the two extra elbows and feet.
