The first location was at Oakland and Good-Latimer, east of downtown Dallas. The church moved at least four times within the first five years. Strong willed women, who took advantaqe of Pastor Stevens lack of aggressiveness, actually ran the church. Today, the membership is approximately 175 and growing.

Swells, as he was often known, swiftly became famous for his brilliant confrontational, pointed style and amazing wordplay as well as his championing of bands and artists that ranged from the Extreme Noise Terror, Napalm Death, The Redskins and Asian Dub Foundation to Daphne And Celeste.
