Ramblings, references and rants of an ABA/RDI Mom. Due to his consistent aggression and inability to impulse control, Fooboy and I decided to start him on a medication that has had some good effects for kids on the Autism Spectrum: Intuniv. We started in August 2011, at age 7 3/4. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:. Address never made public). Discipline | Goo Agoo!

Ramblings, references and rants of an ABA/RDI Mom. It’s a tricky thing when you’ve got a child with a learning disability (ASD, ADD, ADHD, ODD, etc). Hamhock is also a very aggressive, high-energy ASD kid, and it’s very hard if not simply impossible to ignore hitting and aggression. To be fair, ABA does have a good discipline tool with “quiet sittings” and I did see Hamhock’s tantrums decreasing by 95%, with the remaining 5% thereby somewhat manageable. Maybe it was turning 5? While Hamhock was in presch...

The Diagnosis | Goo Agoo!

Ramblings, references and rants of an ABA/RDI Mom. I almost canceled the appointment. I just couldn’t fathom that there was something “wrong.” Yes, I had some concerns, but I kept believing that Hamhock was fine, that he would catch up, that he was just developing on his own timetable. That said, I. In my heart that I would leave that appointment with an autism diagnosis. I just knew. I had no clue. How could a mom be so clueless? Still all autism to me. I did discover it wasn’t Asperger’...I cried the w...

Ramblings, references and rants of an ABA/RDI Mom. Everyone has a different experience with what type of school works for your extra-needs child, all depending on the area you live in and what types of services are available. I know of several families that have moved out of Utah to be eligible for better school services. (Considering UT ranks the absolute LOWEST. For amount of money spent per pupil as of July 2009, that obviously is a smart move for any family – yikes). So, after I would manage my son&#...

Ramblings, references and rants of an ABA/RDI Mom. Hamhock is about to start Fifth Grade at Alianza Academy in the Sugarhouse area for school year 2014-2015. He really is doing great. He is on grade level for math, science and reading. He has friends that we play with regularly. He is growing in all ways as a normal, healthy boy. He still needs help in articulating “th” and “s” without his tongue protruding. He just got braces put on to help pull back his two front teeth, and ...School year 2011-2012, Ha...

Ramblings, references and rants of an ABA/RDI Mom. Back in the day, when Hamhock only had maybe 5 true words at the age of 3, he would mostly speak in goo-goo-ga-ga talk. Literally. Grandma, Fiona, his friend Asiah, bottle, and diaper were all “ga-ga.”. He would point at things that he’d want and say “goo! And when he was really excited about something he would say “Goo! 8221; with that cute smirky smile of his. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public). Three! | Goo Agoo!
https://gooagoo.wordpress.com/2011/09/02/three
Ramblings, references and rants of an ABA/RDI Mom. September 2, 2011. Hamhock has only 17 kids in his second grade class so far. I suspect that some more kids will be offered a spot, because I am sure there are kids on the wait-list, and the class size is approved to 23. But for now, 17. (Nice! But here’s one of the best parts for him. . . there are three African American boys in his class! And, at least a half dozen Hispanic kids too! His shoes needed tying (no, he doesn’t know how himself, yet) a...
