Goodie The Second: “Animal Madness,” a personal essay. My son Benjy is addicted to animal videos. Three, four times a day he pulls me to the computer and makes me watch with him. For about a year, the videos were almost always about small mammals: irritable fennec foxes, clever mice, and in general anything cute and furry, with chubby a decided advantage. And I think to myself, this kid is adorable, but man, is he nuts. Benjy has contracted Animal Madness. I begged and begged. My parents declined....

Parenting, Life, Autism, and Random Ramblings written by possibly the world's oldest 30 something. Welcome to our village. Sunday, May 12, 2013. Mothers, un-mothers, and walking together. At some point, many mothers no longer feel like celebrating birthdays. Some times, it's due to the number of candles on the proverbial cake. Other times, our birthdays are not celebrated because moms, in particular those who happen to be single, of children with special needs are responsible for ALL. An un-Mother's Day"...

The last time I saw other kids truly like Andrew and engage with him, and he with them, was back in kindergarten. Young children don't judge, they accept. The little girls especially enjoyed playing caretaker. Oh how I loved p...In the mi...
