The Intern Diaries

Tuesday, February 8, 2011. I Got a Question For Ya. What does the Super Bowl have to do with historic preservation and museum collections? My answer: more than you'd think. I would love to say that I watched the Super Bowl this past weekend, with fingers turned orange from Dorito dust and hair matted under a wedge of foam-rubber cheese. Yes, the National Trust for Historic Preservation had something to say about a rapper's attempt to hawk mid-sized sedans. Notably, they said this:. I also found the overa...

The Intern Diaries: 2010-05-23

http://thesummerintern.blogspot.com/2010_05_23_archive.html

Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Our Business Model is Badly Broken. Graham Beal gave a speech at the volunteer program today, for which I was pleased to be present. I had been hearing a lot of things, second hand, and was interested in his thoughts. He spoke primarily (and apologetically—this is supposed to be a celebratory occasion, after all) about the DIA’s financial situation and stated that “our business model is badly broken”. Mr Beal expressed that what the DIA would really like is stability. A poll was co...

Friday, May 14, 2010. Today I met the curator of Islamic art. I complimented her on the excellence of the newly-opened permanent Islamic art exhibit. Two days ago, I would have had nothing to say to this woman, I was happy that I'd had a chance to wander through that part of the museum. Things on the third floor were pretty slow today. I send out a handful of emails, and was pretty much done for the day. Watson and the Shark,. Which I'm told is very popular with visitors. Watson and the Shark,. I had a f...

The Intern Diaries: 2010-06-06

http://thesummerintern.blogspot.com/2010_06_06_archive.html

Friday, June 11, 2010. You know you’re in the Registrar’s office when there are nomenclature books and #2 pencils everywhere you look. The Registration department in the DIA was pretty boring. It looks much like the third floor—grey, with cubicles… but more filing cabinets. I’m sure they keep all of the really interesting stuff hidden. Yet all of this led me to another question: How many museums have a separate Conservation department? I had previously thought that a lot of the conservation is handled by...

The Intern Diaries: 2010-05-30

http://thesummerintern.blogspot.com/2010_05_30_archive.html

Saturday, June 5, 2010. I heard a kid say that to his mom last night at the DIA drop-in workshop for watercolor postcards. Every Friday, the DIA is open until 10pm. During this time, there are live music performances (last night was ZoZo Afrobeat, which I heard was awesome), drop-in art-making workshops, cash bars throughout the museum (I'd be lying if I said this didn't make me a little nervous), lectures, and other small events inside the galleries. There when I was in high school. It was groovy. But w...

Cheeseburger In Paradise: The wait is over - almost

http://floridaburgertour.blogspot.com/2010/07/wait-is-over-almost.html

Thursday, July 15, 2010. The wait is over - almost. Jess recently finished up her internship at the Detroit Institute of Art. And is heading back to the Sunshine State this weekend which means the Burger Tour summer hiatus is nearing an end. We have plenty more burgers to eat and I'm extremely excited to have my burger buddy back. Burger King A1 Steakhouse Burger. If I had known then what I know now. I would have gone to Wendy's. The first negative surprise was the Thousand Island-like dressing that was ...

Cheeseburger In Paradise: July 2010

http://floridaburgertour.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 22, 2010. I'm super stoked to be back in Florida and back on the burger tour! And as our first stop upon my return, Big Burger was a solid choice. While Tom tackled the "Big Burger" itself (a one-pound hunk of meat on a bun), I went for the "Baby Burger", which was a more manageable 1/4 lb patty, and topped it with American cheese and bacon. Let me just say this, I have eaten a lot of burgers and I think I have found my niche in the burger world- I'm a 1/3 lb kind of girl. Can I eat that?

Apologetically Thinking Out Loud. May 8, 2010. Did you know that I have a new blog? Well, you do now! If you want to hear me rant about tactless blockbuster exhibitions and chronicle my 320 to 400 hours of interning at the DIA, then The Intern Diaries. PS, I have seen TWO Pure Michigan commercials since I've been at my hotel in Knoxville this evening. I'm super happy about it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I'm Just Sayin': May 2010

http://jessbelcoure.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Apologetically Thinking Out Loud. May 17, 2010. Home, sweet H.O.M.E.S. So I'm back in the great white north! It was a loooong 18 hour drive from Gainesville to Grosse Pointe, but I made it just in time for Mother's Day dinner on Sunday. The drive was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. I expected to be painfully bored after about 3 hours, but I had some audio-books, my iPod, and the satellite radio, so I was all set. Thus, I present to you, my roadtrip playlist:. May 8, 2010. PS, I have see...

THE SUMMER INTERN - Home

Anna (on studying abroad in South Africa), July 11th, 2014. As a career-driven little girl with an intimidating amount of curiosity and passion to implement into the world, I knew from a young age that I wanted to do great things with my life. But, I wanted more. None of these things. I documented my trip with a travel blog. On my . I was also asked to hold a Community Leader position on campus, which involved recruiting and marketing for the company. But, I wanted more. But, I wanted more. I'm a firm b...

The Summer in the Hamptons

The Summer in the Hamptons. Saturday, September 10, 2005. 3-5 things to be included in my fic:. 2) The Hamptons, New York. 3) A nighttime ocean swim and bonfire. 3-5 things to not include:. 1) Stereotyped characters (bad ass Tristan, bookish Rory etc etc). 2) Dean or Jess as speaking characters. Mentioning them to move the story along is all right but that's it. Logan can have a speaking roll but strictly on a friendship basis. The Summer in the Hamptons. Rory sighed. It wasn’t that she mined meeting...

the summer is ending

The summer is ending. Sunday, April 17, 2016. A Khmer new years message - 2016. Here is the first part of the Khmer New Year's message on Sabbath. O Shepherd divine, I know Thou art mine;. Thy search in the night was for me. This bleak world is cold, but warm is Thy fold;. My Shepherd, I follow Thee. Thy beautiful lamp shineth bright o’er my way,. Thy glorious light unto Thy perfect day. Thro’ pastures serene,. Thro’ valleys of green,. My Shepherd, I follow Thee. O Shepherd divine, I know Thou art mine;.

I'll Always Remember You. Sempre teremos boas lembranças de pessoas que foram importantes para nós! This gave me fucking goosebumps. Dunno how long I stared at this. And I’ll keep wondering, and wondering, and wondering, and wondering…. Every time someone says “dragon” in How to Train Your Dragon. Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile. Just look at that adorable wriggle… ready to jump at me and breathe his foul breath into my face…. What a beautiful pose….
