The Tidy Librarian: August 2012

http://www.thetidylibrarian.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 29 August 2012. It has just dawned on me that I haven't posted in months. Apologies to my followers - the Tidy Librarian was busy going on holiday, watching the Olympics and madly planning for the start of the new term. In an attempt to rectify the lack of posts I thought I would blog over the next few weeks and talk about the process of introducing new students to the Library. Nursing has moved to degree-only - will this generate a different type of student to the old diploma days?

The Tidy Librarian: June 2013

http://www.thetidylibrarian.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Friday, 7 June 2013. That 'quiet' time of year. Lots of non-librarians ask me if I'm away on holiday for the whole month of August (I wish! So at this moment in time my list looks like this. Yes, a simple word document. I don't want it in Evernote, GoogleDocs etc because I don't want to be reminded of it when I'm at home. Things Ive been up to. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). That quiet time of year. Things Ive been up to. Library Day in the Life Round 8. University College and Research Group.

The Tidy Librarian: Inductions: done and dusted

http://www.thetidylibrarian.blogspot.com/2012/10/inductions-done-and-dusted.html

Monday, 29 October 2012. Inductions: done and dusted. Inductions are done - well until April when I get a new cohort. It has been exceptionally busy - busier than last year although I can't figure out why. The last week included:. A couple of student tutorials - squeezed in between this and that. A drop-in session for the final year students who are embarking on their dissertation - I had a queue form outside the door which I took as a compliment. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Things Ive been up to.

The Weeded Librarian: July 2011

http://theweededlibrarian.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, 14 July 2011. Reflections, reflections, reflections. This week's thing is reflective practice. The cpd23 blog has some very useful references on reflective practice and we also used a reflective practice model in my CTLLS course. One of the things about writing reflectively is that it requires a fair amount of self-disclosure. Not necessarily personal I guess, but certainly professional. Thursday, 7 July 2011. Twitter and more thoughts on branding. Twitter is yet another place where you're advi...

The Weeded Librarian: Women in Libraries Revisited

http://theweededlibrarian.blogspot.com/2013/11/women-in-libraries-revisited.html

Thursday, 28 November 2013. Women in Libraries Revisited. I'm not really sure why I didn't get more involved - it was clearly my area of interest. I was probably a much less assertive person in those days, but it does make me sad. A search for "Women in Libraries" brings up as its first hit the ALA's Feminist Task Force. Which seems to be still active. This image of a librarian selecting books is produced by the US government so public domain. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

The Weeded Librarian: About me

http://theweededlibrarian.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html

I'm a currently unemployed librarian. I was made redundant at the end of May 2011 from a post in the NHS following a departmental reorganisation. I'm hoping to get back into employmant as soon as possible, but as we all know it's a hard market out there. My experience is in HE and Healtcare, I've worked across a range of different posts. http://theweededlibrarian.blogspot.com/2013/10/bit-of-ooops-moment.html

Tuesday, 22 October 2013. Bit of an Ooops moment! Well, some of my tweaks resulted in the 19Things email going out a bit late this week. I was changing the time at which the emails go out and managed to miss the two hour window. I had to revert the posts to draft and re-publish them. Looks like they've gone out now though! The Weeded Librarian: November 2011

http://theweededlibrarian.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Monday, 28 November 2011. Thing 18 is about incorporating podcasts and screen capture into our practice. It's appearing out of order because I was hoping to get some actual podcasting done before I published. Having said that I did come across the fantastic “Codemonkey” song on a podcast. Summer learning journey, winter reflective practice. I think my development needs are clustered around social skills, self-marketing and assertiveness. This probably accounts for my lack of management experience, as...

The Weeded Librarian: October 2011

http://theweededlibrarian.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Monday, 17 October 2011. Darn, who'd have thought. It's a month since I signed in and naturally I'm really behind on my 23 things. A short report here on my new job and then I'm going to really concentrate on catching up. On a really bad news issue I was shocked to see one of the library jobs coming up on the Twitter feed was an internship. or some reason I didn't think this was likely to happen in th information field. Really, really tough times. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Tech Support: One-on-One Help.

The Weeded Librarian: September 2011

http://theweededlibrarian.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 13 September 2011. Some very brief reflections on advocacy. I’m not going to say much in this post. I’m not entirely sure I agree that advocacy should be part of every librarian’s job description. It may be, but is this a good thing? Before the axe fell on my previous position I spent a lot of time advocating for the library service in general and my colleagues’ posts in particular with some success in preventing redundancies – except my own. Monday, 12 September 2011. I was really impressed wit...
