Saturday, October 19, 2013. Homemade Mayonnaise Tart Style. E really try to avoid eating foods containing processed corn and/or soy ingredients; which is really hard since that eliminates most foods in the inner aisles of the store. Mayonnaise is one of those foods but, no worries, mayo is not only really easy to make at home- but tastes better too. My recipe calls for tempering the egg yolks which means it stays good in the fridge for 5 days. Egg yolks from 3 large eggs. 1/4 tsp sea salt. 3 - Add mustar...

Wednesday, February 12, 2014. If it’s offered by an exuberant presenter. My favorite part about this versatile dish is that it’s equally great served warm or chilled—which means it travels well and can be enjoyed virtually anywhere. Layer 1: The Quinoa. 1 cup uncooked quinoa. 25 cups of chicken stock (vegetable stock, beef stock, etc). Mix quinoa in pot with chicken stock and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and cover, cook for 8-10 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed. If using blender, rem...

The Country Tart: Granola That's Better than Candy
http://countrytart.blogspot.com/2010/06/granola-thats-better-than-candy.html
Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Granola That's Better than Candy. He problem with most granola bars is that they are full of sugar, fat and, sadly, often lacking in flavor. Even worse is that when you compare their nutritional labels with that of a Snicker's bar, you see that there isn't much difference in the fat and calorie department. To hold them together and sugary syrups, rice syrup or honey seem to be the most commonly used granola glues. Though my kids weren't instantly won over on the ground prunes.

The Country Tart: The Kimchi Revelation: Yes YOU Can Make it at HOME!
http://countrytart.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-kimchi-revelation-yes-you-can-make.html
Sunday, January 25, 2015. The Kimchi Revelation: Yes YOU Can Make it at HOME! If I can do it, so can you. A recipe, or two, instead of just look at the pretty pictures, I realized I was being ridiculous. I headed to my local Korean grocery and talked to the owner. I scoured the internet for additional recipes. I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. What can I say? Many of the recipes I have found call for first brining the cabbage in a salt solution so I was very excited to find David Lebovitz. Whom a c...

Tuesday, November 12, 2013. H my goodness. This is one of those desserts that's not even really indulgent (see nutrition info, below) but is still seriously tasty. It was so good, in fact, that I need to make more to get a better photograph- we gobbled it up before that could be accomplished! Good enough for dessert but nutritious enough for breakfast. Garnished above with a bit of Greek yogurt lightly sweetened with local honey. 1 cups Korean sweet brown rice*. 2-3 tablespoons maple syrup. This pudding ...

The Country Tart: Date Sugar
http://countrytart.blogspot.com/2012/10/date-sugar.html
Tuesday, October 9, 2012. Irst, the bitch session. I am always talking about sweeteners and begging people to get off the artificial stuff. I am not a fan of the processed stevia stuff. For example, did you know that the #1 ingredient in Truvia. Is actually erythritol, a chemically-derived plant sugar? It isn't the same thing as drying stevia leaves and sprinkling them over food! Plus, I said. And just to be fair, Pepsico is behind. Have I made my point? My plain, organic yogurt tastes better w/ a drizzl...
