travel blog: October 2007

http://thetoakleys.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 27, 2007. After Amritsar we took a 12 hour bus north again up into the McCleodganj hill station which sits in the foothills of the Himalayas at about 6000ft. The ride up was windy, dusty and bumpy. Our driver was driving this public bus up the windy mountain rode like it was a Porsche.several times I really thought we were going to tip over and tumble down the side of the gorge. We spent a couple of days hiking around the hills and visiting the local lakes and waterfalls. Helen and I ha...

Wednesday, November 21, 2007. Happy Turkey day to all our friends and family! Links to this post. Sunday, November 18, 2007. One night in Bangkok. When we arrived in Bangkok we hired a cab to take us to Khao San road.the local backpacker ghetto.this place was overpriced and crowded with tourists.guess we could have expected this.when we circle back through BK I don't think we'll stay here again. The next day we toured around to see some of the sights around town.including many, many statues of Buddha.

Foot and Mouth - Tane and Lauren's blog. A joint blog about travel, parenthood, and whatever else tickles our fancy. Tuesday, 24 July 2012. Bringing baby up bi-lingual. The studies detailing the benefit of a second language are endless - it's good for brain development, cultural awareness, and helps children learn other languages later. But, in practice, how can I bring up Amotai learning another language? Does anyone have any tips of how to make this work? 7 September 2012 at 09:22:00 BST. The Other Bol...

Foot and Mouth - Tane and Lauren's blog. A joint blog about travel, parenthood, and whatever else tickles our fancy. Sunday, 16 December 2012. Tane's reviews - The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Doing this has reminded me of two things: firstly, I love Tolkien; secondly, there's so much material in The Hobbit and the background of Middle Earth you could easily make another trilogy. Whether Peter Jackson should. It's a good cast though, with Martin Freeman nailing Bilbo and Ian McKellen still delivering t...

Born to be wild. Then suddenly, around Christmas, he started coming out with a flood of words. By the time we went to the Keenan family gathering in Taranaki in mid-January, we worked out that he say about twenty. Since then we've lost count. Foot and Mouth - Tane and Lauren's blog. A joint blog about travel, parenthood, and whatever else tickles our fancy. Wednesday, 24 April 2013. New land for old. Lauren, Amotai and I recently returned from Amotai's first trip overseas, and our big holiday for the year. It was a trip all about new stuff - we treaded new ground, heading to Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Adelaide, which we've not been to before (except for airport stopovers and a short trip to Sydney for work by Lauren. Names are strange and wonderful things. Name the Devil, and he will appear. Find out someone's True Name. And you will have power over them. Name a baby and you turn sound into an identity. Foot and Mouth - Tane and Lauren's blog. A joint blog about travel, parenthood, and whatever else tickles our fancy. Monday, 2 July 2012. 10 ways you know you're getting older. This is one of many things recently that has made me feel that I am getting older. Wiser, of course, and happy with my age, but still older. There are differences, though, doing this pregnancy malarkey a second time. Of note:. 1 It really is more tiring with a toddler. This is what everyone says, and everyone is right. Amotai is a delight, but is also a ball of energy who loves running, dancing, singing, and "Mum read a book! Am I ruining Amotai's life? Will he feel betrayed? 3 Fewer smug thoughts.

Foot and Mouth - Tane and Lauren's blog. A joint blog about travel, parenthood, and whatever else tickles our fancy. Sunday, 5 January 2014. Road trip . with two kids. Variety occurs often, and shenanigans includes a naked swim in Lake Taupo (by a toddler). So, it's just like the movies, although the lake swimming scenes may be edited out so the rating doesn't creep to high. Sometimes the passenger seat is the best place for a rest. Know that hearing complaints about the trip is inevitable. "No! I am int...

Who Sings It Better? Saturday, June 27, 2015. Did You Think To Pray? Well, after having such a difficult few weeks, I got on my knees yesterday and had a screaming conversation (through prayer), with Heavenly Father. Later that day, I had the feeling that I should go over to an apartment complex that is near our current house, and one tha...
