Animal encounters from around the world. Thursday, October 25, 2012. I was wandering around enjoying the sunlight when I spotted this guy who'd found his own little bit of shade, and didn't look like he was in any hurry to move. A very lazy cat. The Nairobi National Park is about 30 minutes away from the city centre, so going for an afternoon safari is completely feasible, and a much more exciting Sunday drive than I ever went on as a kid! Travel Tails: March 2010

http://www.thetraveltails.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Animal encounters from around the world. Sunday, March 28, 2010. I love this photo. This was towards the end of the Bolivian outback adventure, in the wide open plains between the salt flats and the town of Uyuni. This baby llama had wandered a little way away from its mother, but as our car got closer the mother came running. You can see above that her head has turned, just moments before she came to protect her baby. I love the sky, I love the baby's little shadow. I love this photo. One tragic morning...

Animal encounters from around the world. Wednesday, April 28, 2010. The Ladies and The Tramp. A very special guest blogger has provided the following travel tails, my Mum! Our holidays visiting Carly and her brother have presented us with many photo opportunities, and the following are a couple of my favourite Tails. Life on the streets of Bangkok: not easy! This tramp may have found some comfort on his bench at the ferry terminal, and the bottle below? Well that's exactly how we found him.

Travel Tails: Jambo Junior

http://www.thetraveltails.blogspot.com/2010/08/jambo-junior.html

Animal encounters from around the world. Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Our guide was a man named Justice, who'd been a safari guide for 45 years, and I jokingly demanded that he find me a rhino and baby, along with basically every other baby animal I could rattle off. I'd been joking about all of them (of course, secretly hoping to catch a glimpse of the Big 5) but Justice delivered. Justice spotted a "crash" of rhinos (I just googled the collective noun for rhinos and this is it! View my complete profile.

Animal encounters from around the world. Sunday, June 20, 2010. While this isn't a particularly fantastic photo of the animal, it does give a bit of scale to how big some of the ships are that come into the yards. It's a noisy business, and as this dog made his way along the beach, he was startled numerous times by the sounds of banging metal. Saturday, June 5, 2010. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Saturday, February 14, 2015. Wow, I've been incredibly slack. So slack, that my Dad removed this blog as one of his start-up tabs because there was never anything new on it! I was so lazy that I didn't even do my end of year reflection. Oh well, it's a new year now and there's been some excitement. Like the Night Safari (where otters know how to recycle). And a wander up on the Sky Bridge. And on my l...

Chasing Carly: August 2014

You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Tuesday, August 19, 2014. I really can't believe a year has past since last August 19. World Humanitarian Day recognises those aid workers who have lost their lives in the course of their work, and more broadly to celebrate the spirit of humanitarianism globally. There's a great website set up by UN OCHA. If you see one, hug a humanitarian today! And for me, well it's time to go back to work, and I've...

We then did some practice drills in the shallow water, which included inflating and deflating the buoyancy vest, dropping the regulator, finding it, clearing it and putting it back in and also how to clear the mask if water got inside (I would never have thought it possible to do underwater! That's me on the left, notice how clear the water is! Sunday, September 7, 2014.

You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Tuesday, November 25, 2014. To do - get back to real humanitarian work. I'm used to having to do lists that take up an entire page (if not more) of my notebook. The type of to do list that gets carried across over a number of days because there's so much to do and not enough time. I'm not having that problem at the moment, and it's something I've been struggling with. Tuesday, November 4, 2014. I was ...

You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Monday, March 31, 2014. It seems ridiculous to me that it was about this time two years ago that Jules and I went to Japan to celebrate her birthday.time really does fly! Anyways, today's Julie's birthday and I just wanted to give her a special shout out as she's one of the best friends a girl could ever want or need! I don't know how I came across the 100 Happy Days. Chasing Carly: Under the Sea

http://chasingcarly.blogspot.com/2014/12/under-sea.html

You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Monday, December 1, 2014. I went for my first dive in over a month yesterday. It was so nice to be back under water, and though I'd been to this wreck before, this time I saw a lot more of it. And what made it extra cool was having J's camera at my disposal (although it had a bit of trouble focusing sometimes). Very pretty colours in the coral and the fish. Some of the bones of the ship.

You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Monday, April 28, 2014. Saying goodbye, in style. There's a word for the weekend that I just had. EPIC! We started on Friday evening at Ocho, where the food is delicious even if the surrounds are a bit bland. We then moved on to the best jazz bistro in all of Tacloban, if not the entire Philippines, and had a blast singing with Carlos the resident guitar player, think we got home at about 2am. It was ...

The Travel Synonym

Saturday, December 18, 2010. The most popular venue for sunset is on Phnom Bakheng. By 5:00 pm, the crowd normally starts to build up. By sunset, a few hundred people are on and around the mountain temple. A less chaotic venue for enjoying the sunset is in Angkor Wat. Although you don’t get a panoramic view of Angkor as on Phnom Bakheng, you get a more dramatic effect. The entire west facing portion of Angkor Wat is bathed an orange tone. Thursday, May 27, 2010. Travel Advice from an Industry Pro. RECESS TIME AT ANY AGE. June 14, 2014. What did “recess” mean to you? As a child in grade school in the 1940’s, recess. Was that much-anticipated time of the day. We could hardly wait. Running, playing, flirting, or just getting out of the class room. I grew up in Southern Idaho where we were outside most of the year. Even in the winter, recess meant making snow angels or forts, or just running and running. Grown ups need recess, too. What dreams do you have for travel?
