The Type 1 Game

The Type 1 Game. Day to day living with Type 1 Diabetes. Friday, May 22, 2015. Heart still on the mend. T has been 6 weeks since the Pericarditis diagnosis and the only thing that I’m really good at right now is sleeping. I have completely mastered the art of napping. I am also getting a bit better at meditation, but often I end up falling asleep, so basically, I’m really only good at sleeping right now. It feels very new even if it is more of the same. The Type 1 Game: April 2015

http://thetype1game.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

The Type 1 Game. Day to day living with Type 1 Diabetes. Wednesday, April 29, 2015. The heart of the matter. A few weeks ago, chest pain woke me up in the middle of the night. Sitting on the couch googling heart attack symptoms had me almost certain that what I was experiencing was not a heart attack so I eventually decided not to call 911 or to drive myself to the ER. After a few hours of sitting up, the pain seemed to have subsided and I slept a few hours before the alarm went off the next morning.

The Type 1 Game: One day

http://thetype1game.blogspot.com/2015/03/one-day.html

The Type 1 Game. Day to day living with Type 1 Diabetes. Tuesday, March 17, 2015. I wake up rested realizing that I have slept through the entire night. I instantly smile as soon as I open my eyes. It’s a Monday morning but I certainly don’t have the Monday blues. I have never felt so alive, so filled with pure joy and excitement. I am truly high on life. The corner of the kitchen counter seems so empty without the diabetes supplies that had become a physical part of the landscape after so long. The sudd...

The Type 1 Game: Cleansing misconceptions

http://thetype1game.blogspot.com/2012/07/cleansing-misconceptions.html

The Type 1 Game. Day to day living with Type 1 Diabetes. Monday, July 9, 2012. Solo bike rides in the rain are very cleansing. During one of these “cleanse rides”, I started thinking about Diabetes misconceptions. So many blog entries are born during solo rides. Words just flow so much better when I’m out riding. Then I get home and struggle to remember how I wanted to say what I needed to say. Here goes…. 1 - Type 1 Diabetes is controllable with insulin. So there you have it. Two Diabetes myths expl...

The Type 1 Game: The hardest ride, but still the best...

http://thetype1game.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-hardest-ride-but-still-best.html

The Type 1 Game. Day to day living with Type 1 Diabetes. Wednesday, January 2, 2013. The hardest ride, but still the best. No matter how my frozen brain cells analyzed the situation, the common logic conclusion was always that I should pull over, get off the bike and hop into one of the warm and dry support vehicles. I was recognizing many symptoms of hypothermia and my constant shaking was really making it unsafe for me to be riding a bicycle. I just needed to go harder. It was 8 degrees and the forecas...

Mattie's Diabetes: February 2010

http://mattiesdiabetes.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Friday, February 26, 2010. I know, I really need to get better about blogging. I have so much to say and you would think I would say it. but, LIFE HAPPENS! We are redoing our basement, I dance, dance, dance. never home, teaching is taking its toll, then my sweet kids broke our toilet, and yep that's. In a nut shell! SCARY, ANXIETY and OOOOH. It's hard there is no getting around that. LOUD and oh my very LOUD. WHAT, WHEN, HOWS! All the while we were getting acquainted with our friends parents too, and ALL...

Type 1: The game

http://type1-dustinandleah.blogspot.com/2010/07/game.html

Monday, July 19, 2010. Last night we were reminded that Type 1 is in fact a game. A game that doesn't have any logical rules, and one where the strategy can change at any point in time. Over the last few weeks Dustin has been managing his level very well. He hardly ever seems to be over 130, and that is typically when he wakes thanks to what is called " the dawn phenomenon. Outisde of that, his number have been awesome. Actually, better than awesome. they have been encouraging! I asked. And he told m...

Mattie's Diabetes: January 2010

http://mattiesdiabetes.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Friday, January 29, 2010. I feel so bad that I have been NEGLECTING. I think I am just at peace for the time being. We had Mattie's doc appt. And her A1C jumped to 9! I thought we were going to throw up. The Doc said "Heidi, now don't get all stressed out and go on a war path, this is how it is when PUBERTY. Sets in. We have lots of highs. And than some lows. It is very unpredictable". I think Puberty might just be a BAD WORD! What is a mother to do? Mattie is now getting:. Breakfast 1 for every 7 carbs.

My Sweet Girl: May 2011

http://mysweetlittlegirl.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

This blog is about caring for my 9 year old daughter who has diabetes. Tuesday, May 24, 2011. I am going through a new stage in the life of diabetes. I, lately, am overcome with guilt. I am putting this out there to the DOC because I wonder if this is common or if it is a feeling unique to me. The guilt has been coming from somewhere else. I find myself getting angry at myself for doing things with ease that would be so hard for Skyler. I practice yoga, which would be fine for a diabetic, but lately I ha...

http://mysweetlittlegirl.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

This blog is about caring for my 9 year old daughter who has diabetes. Thursday, June 16, 2011. Skyler and I set a goal after our last visit to the endo to try to have an A1C below 7. At that visit it was 7.4. The visit before was 7.9. She was up for the challenge. I told her that this was a long term goal and we may not reach it right away. Well, we just had a visit and her A1C was 6.9! Links to this post. Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Corn on the Cob. Of course, the kid loves corn on the cob! I have been go...

This blog is about caring for my 9 year old daughter who has diabetes. Tuesday, March 29, 2011. I didn't know a person could get as low as 28 and not pass out! It was a close call last night. Sky was in the shower and yelled downstairs that she felt low. Luckily, her meter was right next to me and I shot up the stairs. I checked her while she was in the shower and an alarming 28 showed up on the screen! Links to this post. Sunday, March 27, 2011. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A Work in ...

Mattie's Diabetes: December 2009

http://mattiesdiabetes.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 4, 2009. So yesterday when I got off work around 3:30 ish. YEP she tested her blood at 3:00 like she was supposed too. She was so proud of herself too, and so was I. Mattie said " it feel so good when you do the right thing" The rest of the night she was very positive and motivated about her diabetes. The hardest part for us now, is the PUBERTY. It has hit and is very strange, no real pattern, so it has been hard to pinpoint a starting point to fix. We are just up testing during. OK, "Ma...

Mattie's Diabetes: Insulin Pumps??

http://mattiesdiabetes.blogspot.com/2010/02/insulin-pumps.html

Monday, February 1, 2010. I am looking into insulin pumps. A couple of years ago Mattie was able to get on a pump, and her doctor got us all hooked up w/and Animas. Rep The rep came to my house and sat with Mattie and I for about an hour, and then we were on our own. We will ask about the swelling. In the meantime Mattie has SEVERE. She would crash so fast, than it would trigger her Epilepsy and was a NIGHTMARE! In the sites, and sometimes the cannula. 1 I am looking into the OmniPod. A I like that there...
