Managing in the Tropical Zone: Deal flow in India and not enough VC in general
http://tropicalmanager.blogspot.com/2006/12/deal-flow-in-india-and-not-enough-vc-in.html
Managing in the Tropical Zone. Deepak Shenoy on what it takes to be in the Indian Technology sector. Thursday, December 07, 2006. Deal flow in India and not enough VC in general. Typical deal flow involves a new investor buying out an existing one as part of his investment. If I'm an Angel investor in a company that gets funded by a big VC, the VC will plough a part of the money to buy some of my stock, at the same valuation. It can also be a fear psychosis, thinking "Why's this guy exiting? Having said ...

Managing in the Tropical Zone: A μMoney update: Online photos and DVD rentals
http://tropicalmanager.blogspot.com/2006/12/money-update-online-photos-and-dvd.html
Managing in the Tropical Zone. Deepak Shenoy on what it takes to be in the Indian Technology sector. Monday, December 04, 2006. A μMoney update: Online photos and DVD rentals. From my last post about μMoney I've had some further ideas in two areas: Online photo printing and DVD rentals. For the online photo printing, someone suggested that people who don't have access to photo printers may send their photos using MMS to a printer who can print/deliver/get paid. What do you think? Managing in the Tropical Zone: VC and Founder Compensation are so totally different
http://tropicalmanager.blogspot.com/2007/10/vc-and-founder-compensation-are-so.html
Managing in the Tropical Zone. Deepak Shenoy on what it takes to be in the Indian Technology sector. Monday, October 01, 2007. VC and Founder Compensation are so totally different. Sramana Mitra has an excellent post about how skewed compensation is at startups. As for the compensations, General Partners at Venture Firms make anywhere between $1 Million to $3 Million a year without counting performance incentives. The carry is all upside. 2) VC managers on the other hand have "carry" as an unrequired bon...

Managing in the Tropical Zone: Where angels fear to tread
http://tropicalmanager.blogspot.com/2007/02/where-angels-fear-to-tread.html
Managing in the Tropical Zone. Deepak Shenoy on what it takes to be in the Indian Technology sector. Tuesday, February 27, 2007. Where angels fear to tread. If you're reading my blog post by post, I will sound like a broken record about this, but bear with me please. I'd complained about the general lack of deal flow and VC issues here. Because the typical amounts such ideas need are between 10 and 50 lakhs. Why that much? You might think: Ok, why not go to a VC directly? VCs have $20-100 million dollar ...

The road goes ever on: Israel visit
http://angshuonroad.blogspot.com/2008/10/israel-visit.html
The road goes ever on. Saturday, October 18, 2008. Mid Sept 2008, I went for an engagement to Israel, where our client’s vendor is based out of. Work was hectic and stressful (! And I almost got to do nothing else but work. However, I had some great time experimenting with food (all expenses were paid for! And one day took some time to go and visit Bethlehem and Old Jerusalem. Their local beers are nice - Maccabee, Goldstar. I also tried out some very nice Israeli red shiraz (don’t remember the...Little ...

The road goes ever on: Vacation at Agartala
http://angshuonroad.blogspot.com/2008/10/vacation-at-agartala.html
The road goes ever on. Saturday, October 18, 2008. My Agartala trip has come to an end. Its been a very enjoyable and eventful trip to my hometown, this time round. Few gigs, parties, high-nights, babe-watching (literally), great food, catching up with old friends, and also being a km away or so from the serial bomb blasts that rocked Agartala on 1st Oct. It was really nice to see my nephew and niece Shankha and Megha. Megha is one super naughty kid, and I became her punching bag! I was surprised to find...

The road goes ever on: Malabar coast - August 2005 - Alleppey
http://angshuonroad.blogspot.com/2005/12/down-malabar-coast-aug-2005-alleppey.html
The road goes ever on. Wednesday, December 07, 2005. Malabar coast - August 2005 - Alleppey. The ferry was over crowded with tourists, French largely. How I wished that I had brought some ear plugs! The cruise was just awesome. Will write in details later with pictures (hopefully! Collin found out that his hotel room is already given away to someone else because of the delay. So I asked him to tag alone in case mine is still available. I have the knack of finding the best cheap places to stay I guess!
