The View From Here

The View From Here. Sunday, December 18, 2016. Hope is the only thing that sustains me, and it is a hope that is grounded in my Christian faith. So while everyday I read about the dumb and dangerous acts and words of our president-elect and his cabinet, I also learn of people who give me hope. A recent story lifted my spirits because it was about Christians unlike some evangelicals who supported the president-elect (can we say mostly middle-aged and old White men? The View From Here: Time to Move On

http://theviewfromherebyelenatyee.blogspot.com/2016/08/time-to-move-on.html

The View From Here. Monday, August 22, 2016. Time to Move On. As you may have noticed, many of my blog postings are about the issues I have about previous workplaces and their lack of diversity, lack of cultural understanding, institutional racism and willfulness in their White privilege. So much of it was about working through the oppression I experienced in those places, and in so many ways it was necessary for me to do so for my healing. Time to move on. The View From Here: October 2015

http://theviewfromherebyelenatyee.blogspot.com/2015_10_01_archive.html

The View From Here. Thursday, October 29, 2015. I used to work at a college that often hosts conferences and lecture series with speakers for which all of them are usually White and if lucky, perhaps a woman. What is disconcerting about the most current one is that the topic is moral and ethical leadership in American society. Conservative or liberal or all ways in between, we have a ways to go. Labels: Christian liberal arts college. Moral and ethical leadership. Saturday, October 3, 2015. OMG, a Woman.

The View From Here: Becky with the Good Hair

http://theviewfromherebyelenatyee.blogspot.com/2016/04/becky-with-good-hair.html

The View From Here. Friday, April 29, 2016. Becky with the Good Hair. Last night it was interesting to listen to classmates talk about Beyonce's Lemonade especially the controversy about "Becky with the Good Hair." Most went on to say that it was racial stereotyping against White women. As I've stated in this blog before I'm often the only woman of color in the classroom in my program; however most White students don't see me as such. Labels: becky with the good hair. The View From Here: I'm Really the Only One: From Discouragement to Hopefulness

http://theviewfromherebyelenatyee.blogspot.com/2016/08/im-really-only-one-from-discouragement.html

The View From Here. Wednesday, August 31, 2016. I'm Really the Only One: From Discouragement to Hopefulness. During my morning swim, I processed what I heard and experienced last night and realized the following:. It takes time for people to recognize their privilege in all forms whether it's due to race, class, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, etc. etc. I have taught students in the past who really cared about diversity and racial justice, and they were White and male. Time to Move On. For fo...

The View From Here: September 2015

http://theviewfromherebyelenatyee.blogspot.com/2015_09_01_archive.html

The View From Here. Monday, September 28, 2015. Haters Are Gonna Hate. It's rather disconcerting to realize that a person, and in this case a classmate, doesn't like me. Or at least that's my perception of a recent email sent by this classmate who that told me to "Stop emailing me" period (although there was a "please'"). I had no idea why the classmate thought it was a personal email as it was a group email to the class that we're taking. Perplexing. Sunday, September 6, 2015. Came up. As you probab...

The View From Here

The View From Here. Random musings from a brain in midlife.you never know what you might find! Aug 15, 2015. Seeing In The Dark. Someone once said that faith is not a personal possession until you have suffered. That person understood that the very nature of faith requires the grit and courage to be in the dark so you can eventually see in the dark. Then faith becomes faith. This is just one of the many of the underlined and starred excerpts in the book Seeing In The Dark. There are a lot of jewels in th...

the view from here

The view from here. Mostly cloudy and occasionally clear. Saturday, April 19, 2014. What's wrong and right. Is where you'll find me hiding,. Your heart and mine. Is the space we'll fill with time. Is a time of waiting, but we’re only waiting if we know what’s coming next. After all, Easter Sunday casts a long, bright shadow, a source of hope born from knowing how the story ends. But what about those who lacked the benefit of hindsight? Maybe we need this time. Maybe there’s a reason that Jesus ...That&#8...
