http://thevioletfern.blogspot.com/2012/11/november-observations-bye-bye-blackbird.html

Bird and Butterfly Garden. Friday, November 30, 2012. November Observations: Bye Bye Blackbird. Wonderful, warm November - doesn't that sound odd? But it has been, was. This morning it is 12° F. The first few snowflakes swirled in our sky on November 24. By November 28 the ground is white. I found it unusual to see a Red-winged Blackbird at my feeder. They usually leave for warmer climates by now. Each year I try to record when I think they have finally migrated:. The red leaves of Pin Oak. This year I'v...

Bird and Butterfly Garden. Monday, April 30, 2012. Four In A Dozen For Diana. I am joining Diana of. In choosing twelve months. Of my favorite garden plants. Come April I am reminded of Poppies. Now in the garden the large leaves of Oriental Poppies spray from the ground – Surprise! One magic day their large billowing blooms burst open. Their blooms are intense fiery suns, their color burning, bringing us Northern gardeners what we have been craving over the Winter months and during this chilly Spring.

The Violet Fern: May 2012

http://thevioletfern.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Bird and Butterfly Garden. Tuesday, May 15, 2012. What's Blooming: Woodland Tulip. Here it is, the 15th, already. Tulips, more daffodils, and snow drops - yes, snow drops. I seem to have a different variety that blooms much later than most. I have quite a mix of daffodils, too. While most have faded, the later blooming types have just begun to open. This frilly white variety also is very fragrant. A tulip fades among the poppy buds. Thank you Carol at. For hosting garden bloggers bloom day. Labels: garde...

The Violet Fern: Bird & Butterfly Garden

http://thevioletfern.blogspot.com/p/bird-butterfly-garden.html

Bird and Butterfly Garden. Bird and Butterfly Garden. Thank you for joining me in my garden in the making. The Bird and Butterfly Garden was the first section, or bed, of my garden I created. Here is the same bed in the early Spring of 2009 (bottom row) and in Mid-Summer 2009. Late-Summer/Fall 2010. The joe-pye and perennial sunflowers ar...

I’m Considering a Composting Fence… | Gardening in My Rubber Boots

Gardening in My Rubber Boots. Ramblings of a waterlogged Seattle area gardener and wannabe urban farmer. Garden Tours and Travel. Around the “Farm”. I’m Considering a Composting Fence…. By myrubberboots on January 16, 2011. Because of this, I’m seriously considering replacing the chain link fence with something similar to the composting fence below. I modified a few recipes into this amazing broccoli cheddar frittata and I had to share the recipe! I used a large, deep cast iron skillet. If you have a smaller one, I've included a modified amount of ingredients at the bottom. Broccoli Cheddar Crustless Quiche. One steam-in-bag pack of broccoli. 1/2 onion, sliced or diced.
