Tour Our Paid-For Suburban Homestead – The Wannabe Homesteader
http://thewannabehomesteader.com/tour-our-paid-for-suburban-homestead
Tour Our Paid-For Suburban Homestead. We closed on our first paid-for property! It’s not our forever homestead (it’s only a quarter acre and it’s not farm land) but it is a great starter property. We paid $14,000 and that included a quarter acre of land, well, septic, existing power pole, carport, and patio. Notice I did not mention the house. We didn’t pay for the house because the house not worth anything. The only things we need are #time and #money. Have any I can borrow? Stay tuned for updates on ch...

Rethinking Rabbit Meat as a Survival Food – The Wannabe Homesteader
http://thewannabehomesteader.com/rethinking-rabbit-meat-as-a-survival-food
Rethinking Rabbit Meat as a Survival Food. When I first started blogging I wrote the post,. Why Rabbit Meat is Not the Best Survival Food. And while my intentions were to spread accurate information, I was wrong. Completely false. Not true. Inaccurate. No bueno. You get the picture. One of my worst fears about blogging is not being criticized but being wrong for the sake of ignorantly spreading false information. There’s enough half-truths and misinformation already out there we don’t need anymore. After...

What Our After Dinner Walks Look Like. August 28, 2016. My husband has had the same car for the last 10 years; it’s a 1996 Toyota Corolla. He’s a mechanic so it’s well maintained and the thing just keeps. on. driving. He refuses to sell it (something about gas mileage) and is determined to drive it till it absolutely can’t drive no mo. #frugal. So, when he told me he wanted to get an old Jeep XJ for a “fun” car, I was more than encouraging. “GET IT! Brian: “Do you want to take it out? The forest is the o...

Our Homesteading Goals For 2013. January 7, 2013. I like using the term goals better than resolutions. “Resolutions” sound nice but have no meaning or structure. The word seems to have been reduced to mean “things you wanna do better, but probably wont.”. So, enough with the rambling- here are our homesteading goals for 2013:. 1 6-8 Chickens with a Chicken Tractor. 2 Build a Compost Bin. And I ‘ve been reading up on composting from this book. 3 Save $15,000 by 12/31/13. First Catch – We live on one...

Olde Scrub Land Vantage: Animals
http://oldescrubland.blogspot.com/p/animals.html
Olde Scrub Land Vantage. One cat, two parrots, and . rabbits. I love having the rabbits. They make going outside so much more interesting. I always have an eye open for nutritious weeds. Though I am very new to rabbits, it has been great fun learning about them. I have written up some things about breeding. I keep the rabbits locked with a padlock at all times. This keeps out neighbors and teenagers, and anyone who might be interested in taking them. They are too friendly to fight back, after all! Great ...

The Wannabe Hippie
Sunday, May 1, 2011. I've disappeared again for a while – life has been busy, and this is mostly a good thing. Anyway, I meant to post this back in February when I was only longing for spring. I put together a spring wreath completely with materials from the Dollar Tree, for which the total was about $6. I wanted to add a little color while the weather was still gray. Now, though, we're full into spring and moving into summertime. Two bouquets of faux flowers: $1 each. Three greenery vines: $1 each.
