The Web's Pilot

Blog is Back with Round 2 At Bristol GS for Module 2. So I’m back here. I failed miserably in updating regularly, but hey, as I said before, what’s the point of blogging about sitting in front of books? So Bristol changed locations since I last did a course with them. They’re now closer to the shore and a lot more isolated than before (and I thought Cheddar. Was bad enough). At least Cheddar had climbing and safe roads. Deadly walk to Ground School. Nice bedroom but no Wifi *sigh*. The whole examination ...

The Web Pilot: August 2013

http://thewebpilot.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

A book Review: The Killing Zone: How and Why Pilots Die, Second Edition. The Killing Zone: How and Why Pilots Die. So I finally finished the book I’m reading. I think I might start another blog, for book reviews…with youtube videos…that’d be fun…. So this was a long one. It was 304 pages of learning pleasure. Seriously. I have to say that I don’t know why on earth I started flying without reading this book first. SAFETY FIRST. The Killing Zone: How and Why Pilots Die. He then proceeds to paste several NT...

The Web Pilot: November 2013

http://thewebpilot.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Head in the Clouds. This entry relates to some summer events I had no time to blog about. As I mentioned in the previous blog, things are ultra backed up, but I was an excellent study boy today and managed to go through a week’s worth of ATPL stuff! Still behind though…. After some insistence on my part my mum, her life partner, my girlfriend and I drove to St Cyr L’Ecole airfield and had lunch there so that I could spend my time goggling at the planes taxying by and doing touch and go’s. From the moment...

The Web Pilot: April 2013

Bush Flying for Beginners. I bought a DVD that goes through the basics of bush flying and I wrote them down. I'm so nice that I decided to share those notes with you. The DVD is not a proper training replacement, so these notes are less so! The most important thing to remember is LOWPASS, it can be used even in none bush flying situations. Download useful content at:. Stick and rudder skills. 1)Practice slow flight just above stall speed (no more than 5kt). 3) stall horns sound 5-10kt above critical AoA.

The Web Pilot: July 2013

http://thewebpilot.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Brace Yourselves…Everything’s coming. I made it to Cheddar alive, but groggy. In the end I didn’t nap, I walked around Cheddar. It’s nice. Blogger is being weird and not finding my video on youtube. So I'll wait for a bit, and leave the link till it does. The lady who owns the guesthouse I’m staying at offers a pick up service form the airport. Cheddar, being in the middle of nowhere,. Has virtually no public transport. So I decided that it was a smart move to pay for the ride. It has an old school alarm...

The Web Pilot: F-BFQN

http://thewebpilot.blogspot.com/2014/04/f-bfqn.html

My club owns a Piper Cub. We’ve always referred to it as the J3 when it’s actually an L-4. No big deal. The only difference between these two planes are the windows really. The L-4 has windows that cover more of the fuselage, allowing a better visual range. The other difference is that the L-4 was used by USAAF, whilst the J3 was typically a civilian aircraft. Earliest picture of F-BFQN found. 7th June 1969. The aircraft has been on many trip. The rest of the information I got is mostly anecdotal. Fo...
