The Weekly Turn

Sunday, March 10, 2013. This piece looked like it might have some color in it. Other than that, it's just an average egg blank. The basic shape is done and the sanding is finished. I usually turn 3 or 4 eggs at a time. These are ready for the ends to be turned away now. From left to right the wood is Spalted Pine, Ash, Box Elder and Oak. This is the finished egg. In my opinion, all wood is beautiful! It's working pretty well, but there are a couple of tear-outs I'm trying to repair. The imperfections are...

The Weekly Turn: July 2011

http://www.theweeklyturn.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 29, 2011. I don't like turning small pieces very often. Which is why I have always passed this piece over. There aren't growth rings at all. The end of this looks more like a bunch of small fibers. It's a little hard to see in this picture. I only have one size of faceplate for my lathe and it's about twice the size of this piece. Even though this is a grass tree, it acts the same as if it were wood. When I stopped the lathe this is what I saw. It was wild! The overall height is 2" and it's ...

The Weekly Turn: November 2011

http://www.theweeklyturn.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Week 43 - day 1. These are the 4 pieces that came from cutting up the root of the Walnut tree. The piece I turned is the bottom left. I chose this piece of the root because I wanted to have voids in the side of this hollow vessel. I wanted to show the boys some of the possibilities for turning wood. I'm ready to start rounding the wood. I know I'll have voids in this bowl, but I never really know how they'll show up when the wood is in its "rough cut" state. This is as far a...

The Weekly Turn: Week 2

http://www.theweeklyturn.com/2013/01/week-2.html

Wednesday, January 16, 2013. I wish I was better at photography so that I could take better pictures of this egg. The spalting and colors are beautiful! I tried a couple of different backgrounds to see if I could improve the pictures, but I don't think it worked too well. This egg has a very nice shape and feel and I like it a lot! Sorry there's not more, but if you really want to see how nice it is you'll just have to come over to the house and see it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Weekly Turn: February 2013

http://www.theweeklyturn.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 20, 2013. The wood has kind of a mossy/olive green tone to it and the sapwood is white. I wanted to cut some egg blanks that would capture both colors and I think this one will do a good job of that. Richard showed me a natural edged bowl he turned (which I loved) and I've been excited to turn this wood ever since then. I think I need photo lessons to do a better job of capturing the true colors. This is shaping the smaller end of the egg. Thursday, February 7, 2013. This egg is made ...

The Weekly Time Of Troy

The Weekly Time Of Troy. Im just a beast. deal with it. There was an error in this gadget. Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Whilst reminiscing on the older writings of mine I came to enlightenment about how I have grown, and how I have changed over the year. I realized that I started off at a little bit of a rough start, and frankly I found myself disagreeing with some of the things I said. I am pleased with my growth, and hope to continue growing. On my very first post. 8220;Just Kidding and Ganging Up”. Etc Also...

Saturday, April 17, 2010. How does the lyrics of the "The Resistance" relate to specific theme(s) in 1984? One of Muse's new songs "The Resistance". In there latest album has been inspired by various external sources around them. When I listened to the song , it definitely reminded me of "Romeo and Juliet". Love is our resistance. They keep us apart and they won't stop breaking us down. And hold me, our lips must always be sealed". Quell your prayers for love and peace. You'll wake the thought police.
