My round-bodied bowls and jars echo the ceramic forms of prehistoric Wiltshire and Cornwall, but their eroded rims and bell-like chimes belong to an altogether more contemporary world. The process begins with building a basic form from overlapping strips and coils of clay. Once this embryonic shape begins to dry, its mature form is developed through slow and contemplative sculpting, beating, scraping and impressing. 2011 ‘Received Wisdom’, (joint exhibition), Arlington Arts, Newbury. 2007 ‘Moods’ (mixed ...

The shapes of my hand-built bowls and jars are inspired by the ceramic vessels of prehistory - simple, timeless forms whose balance and poise transcend everyday functionality. Text and images: Whimster Associates.

Although I live in the rolling chalk downs of Wiltshire, my childhood connections are with Cornwall and I return to the county regularly to draw and make images. I am primarily a painter, but making monoprints is an integral part of my artistic process. The rugged moorlands and rocky foreshores of the South West are a constant source of stimulation, but not simply for their scenery. 2011 ‘Received Wisdom’ (mixed exhibition), Arlington Arts, Newbury. 2008 ‘Vista’ (mixed exhibition), Corn Exchange, Newbury.

Monday, May 4, 2015. We have been nothing but crazy busy the past several months. I can't even believe it is already May! Where the heck did the past 9 months go? Despite how quickly the days have been passing, we have been making sure to slide some fun in between the cracks of work, school and the every-day garble. This post features some of our favorite memories from last fall, including lots of pics. :) Thanks for your patience as we slowly catch up from this super insane year! Our holidays were kind ...

The Whimsy Bee

Monday, January 12, 2015. We've known from some time that Athena, our tan alpaca was pregnant. She was bred with a gorgeous white male and I have been dreaming of her giving birth to a white female. If it was a white male we would have to eventually sell it but if it was a girl, I could keep it. And white-oh to have a white alpaca! I could dye the fiber and have so much fun with it. I had such high hopes. It was a sad day. Athena stood over her baby, making a sort of humming noise. I know she kne...It is...

Exploring another of the overgrown ‘rooms’ in her inherited garden, Lizzie finds herself transported once again through a magical portal, this time to the Louisianan swampland. There she is pursued by terrifying plat eyes, half-crazy men and boys who drive her to an isolated villa, Cypress House, where a sickly girl is trapped with her housekeeper. Steve first reached out to me to review th...
