While whisky is very diverse I like to keep things simple when it comes to rating whisky. I use a simple. Scale for color(a bit irrelevant) and. Light / med- / med / med / full. For the body. Then the usual nosing and tasting, but none of that subjective descriptions. As far as grading I use a simple star rating system. 8211; Colour Scale. A-5 A A 5. 8211; Grading Scale. God awful. Indescribably bad. Steer clear. Still pretty bad. Avoid. Getting there but still flawed. Bit below average but not terrible.

I’m also getting some potpourri, bacon grease, bbq and honey glazed ham I’m not really finding too much port influence in this. With water it sweetens up. Macallan Fine Oak 10. Posted by Eli R. June 6, 2014. Smells rather young and spirity. Getting some notes of honey, bananas and pineapple. There are some hints of the sherry but it is very faint. I also get a buttery mashed potatoes aroma that you find in new make bourbon. Touches of lemon here and there. With water the whole things gets a little sweeter. Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask. Posted by Eli R. February 1, 2014. Get some wood varnish initially and some other typical rum-like notes. Somewhat fruity and sweet with bananas, cherries, pineapple, touches coconut. The sweeter vanillas, caramels, rum cake(Tortuga) and sugar cane become more prevalent the more it opens up. There is a slight off-putting paint thinner aroma as well. Everything I would expect from a rum finished malt. Not much change with water. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
