AleRose: The last few months of 2009
http://aleandrose.blogspot.com/2010/01/last-few-months-of-2009.html
The last few months of 2009. October through December were fairly quiet months for us here in Tokyo. With the weather beginning to cool down, we tend to become hermits! Ainsely and Greg visited Tokyo in October and we had the chance to catch up with them on several occasions which was lots of fun. I took Ainsley to our favorite coffee shop in Harajuku “Snob’s Heart Café” which has delicious coffee and some of the best cakes in Tokyo! We did have the lucky chance (thanks Marjon! The river was roaring afte...

AleRose: January 2009
http://aleandrose.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Well, I have just returned from the class ski trip. I've spent 5 days and 4 nights in the snow with 27 of my 28 cherubs, plus two very brave parent volunteers! St Mary's owns a ski lodge in Tsumagoi, which is approximately 4 hours north-west of Tokyo. The accommodation was very comfortable, the food was good, however I didn't partake of the onsen experience (bath water after 27 boys is not appealing! I do want to learn to ski one of these days. before I'm too old! Labels: 5R Ski Trip. We arrived at the H...

AleRose: Spring break 2010
http://aleandrose.blogspot.com/2010/03/spring-break-2010.html
Spring break finally arrived after a long, hard winter here in Tokyo. Although winter is not yet over (yes, it's still cold! There is a hint of spring in the air during the days at least, and a few cherry blossoms are beginning to bloom :). In autumn/fall, they will be loaded with apples. can't wait to see that! The man who owns the field (pictured above), was kind enough to give us some apples from his cold store to sample - we all enjoyed the crispy, sweet flavor. With one female only onsen, and 4 mixe...

Tokyo Terrace: Edamame Soup in an Enlightened Kitchen.
http://tokyoterrace.blogspot.com/2009/05/edamame-soup-in-enlightened-kitchen.html
Wednesday, May 13, 2009. Edamame Soup in an Enlightened Kitchen. While we were in Kyoto a little over a week and a half ago, I bought a cookbook entitled The Enlightened Kitchen. The author and wife of a Buddhist monk, Mari Fuji, compiled recipes commonly found in temple cuisine. All of the dishes are made with simple Japanese ingredients. The recipes are accompanied by a glossary of terms in the back of the book which also helps to explain how to use and select the various ingredients. Taking it for gra...

Xamonster's hot house of yarn. Hand-knitting and a little piracy in a world of mass production. Thursday, May 22. Knitting quietly, feverishly. The blossom chart transitions into the first edging chart. That's all I have. My mom and I are going to see the new Indiana Jones flick tonight, because it's showing here in town (and we both enjoy Indiana Jones). Categories: Life the Universe and Everything. Friday, May 16. Xamonster's hot house of yarn. Hand-knitting and a little piracy in a world of mass production. Tuesday, March 17. Top o' the mornin' to ya! I saw the pattern for Lacy Clover. Just in time . I would have stuck it in my hair, but my hair would have none of it today. (Not to mention it's a bit heavy, as it's DK cotton and about the size of my palm.). Don't drink too much green beer. xamonster's hot house of yarn: Spring Knitty: made of win.
http://piratexa.blogspot.com/2009/03/spring-knitty-made-of-win.html
Xamonster's hot house of yarn. Hand-knitting and a little piracy in a world of mass production. Wednesday, March 11. Spring Knitty: made of win. I haven't written, dear friends, and I apologize. To make up for it, let me tell you what I want to knit from the Spring '09 Knitty, which went live this morning. An interesting vest-like scarf (or is that a scarf-like vest? That would be a nice addition to a steampunk wardrobe, I think. It would probably look pretty smashing with my new goggles. The description...
