95 Acres of Sky. 95 Acres of Sky. A Fernwood Farm Blog. February 23, 2015. Today Stephen is saying goodbye to his Dad, his father died suddenly 10 days ago leaving his loving family in shock. There was no warning, his light went out and he was gone. There are no words, no pithy phrases that can adequately sum up the loss of a loved one. It’s impossible to quantify a life, to sum up a person; we try, but we know that it really can’t be done. Not really. How do you describe love? Thinking of you all. xx.

I’ve been a bit absent from the old blog this week due to having a small piece of wood in my eye. I quite literally poked myself in the eye with a stick. Well a piece of kindling actually but the upshot was the same. Ouch. Of course he enjoys it all the more when it is messy…. I’ve been using my Pinterest Art Board. So what was it that inspired all of this creativity?

95 Acres of Sky. 95 Acres of Sky. A Fernwood Farm Blog. February 11, 2015. Well here I am in February and realising I haven’t written anything here since November, very odd. A combination of blog hosting problems, winter and my laptop being out of commission has made writing tricky. But now, I have returned. So what’s up? Actually, it’s pretty good. This year, as promised, we’ve stuck to our plan for keeping koselig. I often wonder where we are going, where the next decades will take us. Given how fa...

95 Acres of Sky. 95 Acres of Sky. A Fernwood Farm Blog. November 15, 2014. Cold and frosty earth, crumbs left over from breakfast, a roaring fire and stock on the stove. These are a few glimpses of what I’m seeing here this morning. I hope you are cosy, wherever you are. And then the snow fell. On a cold and frosty morning. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. 95 Acres of Sky. 95 Acres of Sky. A Fernwood Farm Blog. Tag: art history with children. Say what you see. Say what you see. February 16, 2011. I gave Huwyl an art book to look at for a few minutes, I asked him to really look and try to remember what he saw. I played with Neirin for a bit while he did this so there was double good use of time! When we looked again at the painting I asked him questions such as ‘What season do you think it is? 8217; ‘What time of day might it be? So while we are a bit short...

95 Acres of Sky. 95 Acres of Sky. A Fernwood Farm Blog. On Pig Love and Equinox Based Panicking. On Pig Love and Equinox Based Panicking. March 25, 2015. This is an odd time of year. It’s odd every single year, yet every. single. year I am surprised by it. I can feel the spring moving beneath my feet, feel her stirring and shifting the heavens and the earth, yet we are ice bound, cold and wintery for yet. Raise 300 meat chickens, take on new cows to expand our herd, milk a cow, make cheese, butter and yo...

Between nature and culture. Straddling the invisible line. Day 27 – Urban Foraging. May 8, 2014. One of the Ottawa walks that caught my eye this year was given by. The walk also fell perfectly in line with Day 27 of my 30 day challenge. So my 30th sustainable habit – urban foraging. There was also a discussion about some of the dangers associated with urban foraging and the importance of knowing what. You’re harvesting and where. Here are a few resources that were introduced at the walk:. And started to ...
