Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Children's Prisons in Uganda! Friday, June 3rd. Our first morning in Africa we woke up to the sounds of roosters, monkey and exotic birds! What a great alarm clock! Our first ministry opportunity will be at some children's prisons.two words that should never be in the same sentence! A year ago there was only 2 toilets for 200 children and no showers! When we drove up we were shocked to see so many young children running around. We soon found out that these are Karamajong chi...

Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Saturday, June 4th. Today we visited 2 more children's prisons and it was Montana's 17th birthday (so he can actually say he spent his 17th birthday in prison! We made a handmade "African" birthday card and had the whole team sign it and then decorated one of our craft visors for him to wear. They all wear uniforms of green/khaki. Below is a picture of the boys dorm which was very neat and tidy. There clothes were folded on ropes above their beds. Brennan, Montana and Brittany s...

Monday, June 27, 2011. Monday, June 6th. Woke up this morning to 200-300 neighborhood children arriving in their uniforms for the preschool that is on campus. At 7:30 am they gather in the yard for morning P.E. class which consists of reciting the alphabet and other phrases while jumping and hopping around. After breakfast we walked down the road to the Primary School for a visit to the classrooms. Each classroom has about 75-90 students for ONE teacher! The school is already outgrowing its classrooms.

Monday, June 27, 2011. Monday, June 6th - Art Therapy. After all the little kids had gone to bed, we invited the 13 year old and older ones to join us for some Art Therapy (about 30 of them). Each one got 2 handkerchiefs. On one they were to draw or write their best memory. On the other one, their worst memory they can think of. Posted by DeeDee Neirly News. Monday, June 27, 2011. Sunday, June 5th (part 2). At 2:00 pm we walked back to Canaan's thru the village, waving to the children and stopping to take pictures. We had the rest of the day free! The Canaan kids were very excited to see us and show us around. Here is the final product. The beads are very time consuming to make, yet they sell the necklaces for only a couple of dollars! This is the girls dorm at Canaan's with some of their laundry hanging out to dry. She was so happy. Greg and Susan Lanker.

Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Sunday, June 5th (part 1). This was our amazing, funny, crazy team of 27 team members! After a wonderful breakfast we drove down the road about a mile to Amazima Ministries run by Katie Davis, a 28 year old American single gal who has adopted 13 girls. Her ministry works with the Karamajong children (the poorest of the poor in Uganda) and today we will be feeding over 450 of them! When we arrived, the first thing I noticed was the new chapel built since I was there last year!
